.net/biz/info/org versus ccTld's

Well here's a funny thing.

I guess the popular belief is that .net is the second best extension for a premium one word generic name.

I have a large collection of some of the best .co.ve and .com.ve single word domains available.

We hold these for future devolpment because we live in Venezuela and the country has strict exchange controls making it difficult for Venezuelan's to make international purchases, hence the advantage of developing .com.ve sites.

Until Monday this week I had not made any effort to park these domains, assuming they would receive very little natural traffic because of the extension.

During Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I parked them all on Name Drive.

As of today, 4th February, after just 3 days, Celulares.com.ve (CellPhones) has received 69 uniques and 10 clicks (14.49 CTR).

Celulares.net is parked on Sedo and has only received three uniques in the same time!!!

Although it has only been three days it does not appear to be limited just to celulares.com.ve

Horoscopos.com.ve has received 15 uniques and 3 clicks. Horoscopos.biz nothing.

Computadoras.com.ve 21 uniques and 3 clicks. Computadoras.info/org nothing.

Even an English word, Music.com.ve has received 36 uniques and 10 clicks.

None of these domains have been developed or registered before and have no page rank.

Do other members have good natural traffic on their premium ccTld names? Or is this proof that Venezuelas ccTld is a unique situation because Exchange Control affects peoples decision to search for a Venezuelan Website where they can use their credit cards?

.US domains.US domains
well it still doesnot change my view of .nets

if you try to sell .com.ve tell me how much you can make ... and then sell .net and tell me how much you can make :)

Yes, Sure.

From a reselling point, I agree that obviously the .net is by light years, better.

I was just suprised by the traffic differentials.

I think it's a bit of both. Some of my best .US domains (in terms of generic single words) have gotten small steady traffic, but you might be on to something better with your Venezuela domains because of the reasons you mentioned. Plus, some countries are faster to adopt and accept their namespace than others. Look at .DE for example.

DOMiNIC, whatever the reasons, it's a nice surprise huh? :)

Good luck and hopefully this is a sign of things to come for you in the future!

Dominic. Thats primarily since your traffic is from SPANISH. Most spanish users wouldnt type in .net... just .com and their country cctld.

Before you all jump on the bandwagon and rush out to register .com.ve domains, I must warn you that although registration is open, transfer of a domain, just like a property or automobile, would probably require you to travel in person, with the new buyer and sign with a registered notary. I've not put this to the test but this applies to real estate and autos without exception.

If anybody saw the full, two and half hour speech by President Hugo Chavez with Fidel Castro yesterday in Havana for the award ceremony granting Chavez UNESCO's 2005 Jose Marti International Prize, you will realize that Latin American and Caribbean Nations are going to get their act together to reduce dependance and manipulation of politics, commerce and dependancy on the USA.

Unlike the picture presented by most of the US networks this is not communist revolution or a group of power hungry tyrant dictators supporting Al Queda.

With the exception of Castro, (who would win an overwhelming victory anyway), he new socialist leaders of Bolivia, Argentina and Chile were democracticaly elected by the people, and understand the true dream of Jose Marti, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez and Che Gueverra, is a form of caring socialism that lifts the poor from the bottom instead of exploitation by Europe and the USA of the sub continents massive natural and human wealth.

As Castro said yesterday, The worlds oil and natural resources will run out in the end, but the one thing Cuba has is knowledge, with tens of thousands of highly skilled doctors and professionals, this knowledge can be passed down the generations for eternity.

I know this is no place to give a political speech but it does relate to the Latin Domain market place.

I am sure the proposed Latin American Currency, 'The Sucre', will be implemented in a much quicker time than it took Europe to agree on the Euro.

I also predict that there will be an all inclusive 'Latin American and Caribbean' domain extension within 5 years.

For investment Reasons, specific to one's geographical location a ccTLD may sound better/ may even be better. But as the internet is a world/global phenomenon you are bound to attract Users from Other countries(Speaking your language). So in the long run, for resale value, better reach the .NET version is better....

If that isn't a left wing socialist/communist (where everyone is equal -- mired in misery except for the party leaders) speech then I never heard one.
