Need HELP with SSL (Secure Certificate)

I've just had a secure 'certificate' installed on a domain, but I'm confused where to go with it from here. I know I can set up a shopping cart and use an address like https://domain.com/cart to accept orders, but how does the transaction info get sent to me? By email? If by email, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the secure site? As you can see, I'm lost... and need some guidance here

I haven't had experience with this sort of situation yet, but I would imagine you could simply write the info to a database... and then create a page where you can login and view/print the order/cc information.

At least that way you wouldn't have to leave the secure environment to access the info.

Just an idea.

The ssl secures the connection between the visitor and your website. It makes sure that the visitor's credit card number does not get intercepted between their computer and your server. As for you retrieving the info, you should access it from a secure admin section behind the https connection. If the credit card numbers are emailed to you, that can lead to someone intercepting the emails.

Exactly. That's why I posted this -- to find out how to retreive the info securely.

I only dealt with this one time several years back, As I recall I had a shopping cart on my site that was also set up with a bank for credit card's, There was an admin section. I'm not sure if it was in my shopping cart or with the bank but I could log in and view the info.

I also had a site where I had the credit card equipment at me house and every thing was through the shopping cart so I logged in to the admin section and It had tools to prepare the reports I needed. I will look into my old files and see if I can find you more info.

Right, the common way Gene is to have an admin panel secured with SSL too to view orders. But if you use payment processor like 2Co or other, the credit card number is stored on their server not in your database...

If you prefer use mail, you can use secure mail too, like S/MAIL or others. But it's most simple to use admin panel secured with SSL..

So if I hear you correctly, I can create a folder like https://thedomain.com/folder and protect that folder with a password (.htaccess)? Thanks for the input.
