I'm trying to get a printer working with Win98. When i go to the device manager and click on my Adaptec SCSI controller info, it keeps saying "This device is not started" and then says to click on a button and reboot. I have done this and nothing changes.

Thank you in advance for any help you can send my way. I need the printer for my business.

Uninstall and redo. Check all connections maybe even unconnect and reconnect to make sure.

Make sure you include the driver and dont just click past the the screen. Driver has to be right.

Thanks ID... I had already checked the connections... no problem there. The drivers seem to be fine, as well, but I will double check.

Go into your device manager and check for any errors next to the device/s.

Good Idea

It sounds like it might have an address conflict (IRQ)

Your device manager should show this with a (!) in a yellow circle

You might have to cange the jumpers on the SCSI card
or on the the card it is fighting with

Sometimes you can get everyone to work together
from the device manager its self (change the settings)

Hope This Works For You

I appreciate both of your efforts, BB & ID...

I just discovered this message under the
"Conflicting Device List":

Interrupt Request 11 used by:
IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
Interrupt Request 11 used by:
Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller

So as I understand it, I will need to change one of
the "11's" to something else... but what? Anyone know?

Most SCSI controlers say to press a key on boot to enter the setup for them inside the setup you can change the IRQ mine is set to 7 and works fine :) Try setting it to 7 :)

DN: I was able to change it within windows and did so to "09" per the instructions. I have resolved that conflict and again I thank you guys.

My printer still doesn't work but that's another issue.:|
