Need Help! Digital Camcorder Software Question

Can you recommend a good digital editing program for digital camcorder to computer footage?

(A friend is asking me, and I'm unfamiliar with digital cams.)

I would truly appreciate any help you guys could offer!

the best i can advise is adobe premiere or macromedia director

A cheaper alternative to those listed above is Sony Vegas.

Works well, and isn't a bank-breaker.
