Hi everyone!

I would appreciate advice on my first potential outbound sale. Here`s the situation:

This morning I sent out emails to potential clients. Almost all of them were personalized, to certain people. Pretty soon I got "how much" response. I named my price, they said "It`s too high, but we`re definetly interested, contact us when price is going to be lower". I asked for a counter and they did, 10x less than my asking price :) but added that are willing to negotiate and that actually might pay more, if I come down closer to their counter.

This potential buyer was only one that contacted me today.

My questions regarding this situation and in general are:

  1. How long should I wait for others to respond (if they will) before trying to actually negotiate with this buyer and close the deal?
  2. Is it a good idea to tell (now) this potential buyer that I`m waiting response from other people that I reached out to?
  3. In hypothetical situation, where couple of people are interested in buying for the same price, is it ok to make sort of auction out of that or it should be "first come, first serve" basis? If it`s ok, is it possible to set up something like a private auction on some of selling platforms, with just specifically invited people?
Thanks in advance.

Ivars

It all depends on your cashflow situation. Do you NEED the money right now? More money is nice, but be prepared; the potential buyer might be the only bite you get for a long time, if ever. Unless you have an innate gut-feeling that says better offers are worth waiting for, I'd try and get the ball rolling.

Meet him half way on his offer and move on to the next sale. If you make a decent roi, you are doing better than most.

Regarding the other questions, I think it would be a terrible idea to try and auction between buyers. Be honest, if you have a better offer, be up front and tell them, but don't make it out as if you are some sleezy dealer trying to squeeze every penny.

Repeat customers are great, you won't get many treating them that way.

Yes, I really need money right now, and it definetly is going to be good ROI for me. My question about waiting is more like should I wait couple of days, maybe week tops and if then I got no other offers - close the deal, or don`t wait and negotiate the price lets say tomorrow, right away.

Waiting for a bigger fish while you have one chomping the bait already is a good way to go home empty handed. But that's just me. Ultimately, you have to go with your gut instincts.

Hi just my opinion :) if you think the offer you recieved is good and you are happy to take it then close the deal ! why try to get a little more out of them if you are happy with what they offered :) is it worth losing the sale completely ? a few of mine i tried to be greedy and go for that little extra and lost the sale and did not get another offer on that name and sold for a lot less than i could have took.

Makes sense to close the deal.

Considering the ROI is a "good ROI" would suggest accepting the offer, closing the deal and moving forward to your next potential domain endeavor.

They want the domain, and they want to negotiate with you.

Talk with them; only set up an auction scenario where there are two truly interested parties and liquidity is not an issue for you. (imo)

Show some good will and knock your price down a bit, but too much as you don't want to cheapen your position.

Good luck.

they are willing to negotiate, so negotiate.

I really need money right now

first you don't want them to know that
so you have time
your are not in a hurry

make small steps down
and wait at least 24 better 48 hours for each reply

write the reply immediately but dont send it
use a notepad

rewrite it as long as it sounds
professional , friendly , but with a distance, and relaxed

and most important:
always alwaays always
add a deadline to an offer

If the price you are getting is good for the Quality of your Domain then you should sell it right way but if according to you Domain is valuable then you should wait for more response.

In Short - Maybe you should sell the Domain Now
