HI All

I was going to try bidding on a private auction in my name winner account for a domain I wanted but not after reading this message, LOL is this crazy or what...

$50 NON refundable fee if you don't win the auction LOL

The message is below..

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joining a private auction requires a non-refundable $50.00 fee. The fee will be assessed as soon as you click the "I Agree" button, using your credit card on file. If you do not wish to join the auction, click the "Cancel" button.
If at the end of the auction you are the highest bidder for this domain, the $50.00 fee will count towards your payment. If you do not win the domain, your fee will not be refunded.

The private auction will start at 1:00pm Pacific Time. Once it is started, new members cannot join the auction. The auction ends when no bid has been placed for 15 minutes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I guess I won't be using their private auctions..

Other then this I have been happy with namewinner in the past..

Thanks
Tom Dahne

I guess its a way of guaranteeing that they at least earn some sort of profit from such an auction.

Not sure, because they'll have less bidders this way...

They are in a state of panic and uncertainty with the success of POOL and the possiblity of WLS.

They seem to have made some short-term cash injection changes.
I may work against them badly...

I'd expect to see them follow POOL and integrate a seamless Domain Marketplace.

RegisterFly have had one for ages so it does actually surprise me that companies such as Dotster(namewinner) are not taking advantage of their targetted traffic to provide this service.

What I do like about their system is that, even if you dont have a 'particular' interest in acquiring a deleting domain name, you can view the highest bid it gets anyway. This provides marvellous up-to-date industry valuations.

Hopefully they will sort all the foibles out and hang in there.

I had the impression that one can join post-drop auctions by paying $50. But I don't see a list of post-drop auctions I can join at namewinner. Am I reading this wrong?

Alot of people will be unknowingly stung by this... rip off.

that seems a rather stupid practice, I can understand charging $50 to ensure people do not inflate the price but it should be refunded at the end of the auction.
