Names parked @ Bodis useless unless manually optimized?

I parked some domains @ bodis the other night. I didn't keyword them or optimize them in anyway, this was just going to be my first look-see @ bodis.

But I noticed that if you view a bodis-parked name that hasn't been tweaked, all you get in the browser is a white page with "Domain requires keyword to function."

Is this Bodis' not-too-subtle way of telling me that I have to modify every domain I park with them before they'll show anything useful? Most monetization systems do a basic auto-optimization that starts serving info right away.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

If you give it a keyword it'll work with the white page, or you can customise it to get a nice looking page.

The white pages work very well, so you could try leaving it white for a while before you customise it.

But you have to specify a keyword for each domain at this point. I think auto optimization is in the works.

oh boy... typed it all out and something went awry. ok again

When you first "Add Domains" you'll notice Bodis shows you an example of how to add domains with a keyword. If you're adding multiple domains, make it easier on yourself and pick a keyword. You can customize later. If you don't add a keyword in the "Add Domains" page, you'll have to do it in the "Manage Domains" page after you have finished adding domains.

Now when you go to "Manage Domains" you'll see all the keywords you entered from the "Add Domains" page listed in the Lander/Keyword column. Usually if a keyword was not accepted ( probably because it won't generate ads), you'll see "pending" in the Lander/Keyword column. Go ahead and click on the offending name that dared to have a lame keyword :) and you will come to a page where you can type a new keyword in. If the keyword has been accepted, you'll see a notification up top telling you so.

Again, you can customize at your leisure from there on out, but at least your names are up and running on auto landers without too much time invested.

Peace,
Vik

Okay, thanks for the info. That's interesting. I think it's pretty lame that if you don't enter keywords bodis just serves up this lame blank page with a cryptic error message.

From reading all the threads about Bodis it seems that the vast majority of domains get better results once they get customized. I have customized all of my 100 domains at Bodis and had a lot of fun doing it! There are lots of nice examples in the various Bodis threads to give you great ideas.

Like vik68 said once you get your keywords sorted out you can then get into customization at your leisure. Good luck

As I mentioned, auto optimization is in the works.

support for bodis

Every one who thinks something about bodis is lame should remember this is not a tried and perfected parking company.

If people do not know, bodis is a brand spanking new company started by a 19 year old and he is literally learning it by the seat of his pants.

That takes guts, commitment and dedication.

Knowing that when you signed up it is pretty obvious that some things are not going to be perfect. Most of us are in bodis parking as we want something better. This guy is going to be a internet leader and if you are not wanting to stand by him for the trial start up, leave and come back later when it is more solid. Because one thing is for sure, .bodis will have a learning curve. How could it not? The owner has never had a parking company before.

It is important to talk about what is working and what is not working, when one is happy and when one is not, such as when when revenue drops. What I can't understand though is expecting this little start up company to instantly have what has taken the big players years and millions of dollars of parking profits to acheive.

For myself I like the enterprizing sprit of its founder and want to share in its ups and downs and so I am patient that things will go well for domainers who park at Bodis.com

I think bodis is working hard and listening to us. For that they have my loyalty.

To my knowledge, this is the only parking company offering 100% revenue. This alone is good cause for patience. If you have a complaint, try emailing Bodis first. They take a few days but give you an answer, at least they do answer (they answered my concerns).

I think the 100% is for sticking with them for the startup. When it grows that payout may not be available.

I did try emailing Bodis first and have not received a reply from them yet. I waited a day from emailing them before posting here.

Give them a few days. If you must move your name somewhere else due to revenue, consider moving it back when you get a response. Their payouts are much higher than other companies I have used.

Yes I know bodis was started by a 19-year old whiz kid. And I know they claim to be offering 100% percent revenue share, though I don't think that's a feasible business model.

But providing decent support is critical for any online business, regardless of who started it or what the business offers or claims to offer. It's been over 72 hours since I contacted bodis about this issue and I haven't heard anything from them - not even an automated acknowledgment of my issue.

I don't really care how many messages are in queue ahead of mine - in fact, knowing that there are that many messages queued up makes me even more concerned about the viability of bodis.

I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful but I can't believe that anyone would dump their names into a parking company and sit back and wait for the cash to roll in.

I think there are two points to be made here:

1. No-one who is serious about parking runs on auto-pilot.

2. No parking company is that good that it can automatically optimise domain names.

Truly, if you are relying on a parking company to do your job for you then you are missing out on a lot of revenue.

:)

The Bodis customistion system is good and rewards you for little effort. I've been able to take a name that was earning 20 to 60 cents-a-day (at my previous parking company) and make it pay $7-8 a day (from only 20-30 visitors a day). This particular name is not a premium name - in fact it's a rather obscure, three-word name that I picked up in the drop-off bins for $14. The key to making it work is the high level of ad link relevancy I've been able to generate. With Bodis's customised page system I can largely determine which advertisers appear in the 15 link categories. Greater relevancy = more click-throughs.

If you're prepared to do the work you'll get the return.

cheers

I am thinking about hiring another person full-time to work through the support tickets and run all the other day-to-day activities such as payments, monitoring, etc.

There are indeed many tickets in the queue. Hopefully we can get through them soon and then be on track!

Perhaps a members forum at Bodis might help you out Matt. Sometimes people have questions that can be answered by other members, thus reducing the amount of support tickets. You could suggest that members check it out if their questions cannot be answered by the homepage FAQ. This way to, you could have different sub topics addressing customization, suggestions and feedback, etc...

Just a thought-
peace,
Vik

Either hiring someone and/or having a members forum might be a good idea. I've yet to receive a reply to the message I sent in about this issue.

Or a Bodis forum here on NamePros :)
