So after posting what I thought was a helpful, useful and constructive post last night, I was met with yet another unprofessional and truth twisting reply from a NamePros member who has done so on multiple occasions:
I was about to reply using logic and facts .. but then asked myself .. what's the point?
The last time this happened, I spend many many hours engaged in a public debate using quotes, logic, math and data to make my points and prove my conclusions. I got insulted throughout, but that actually didn't even bother me as I took those insults as compliments considering who they were coming from.
What bothered me more than anything else was having some of my extremely detailed and developed posts deleted. Even after I specifically requested (as the person being attacked) that all the content remain undeleted to not just serve as proof of the offending person's character, but much more importantly, so the rest of the helpful information I spent hours compiling would remain to help all NamePros members.
Then when I tried to further objectively address the situation:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/de...tent-behaviour-and-moderation-issues.1144448/
Everything in Orange in that thread were things I was obviously asking @NamePros to address and reply to, but then my (again) very detailed and fact based topic on the matter was mostly ignored by NamePros, got closed and then mysteriously and conveniently deleted from the forum listing so that nobody could find it.
To make things worse, while I'm sure Eric had nothing but the best intentions writing "If you don't get along with another member, just avoid quoting, referencing, or reply to them.", and that it might have been good advice for those who were truly just posting for the sake of attacking others, I was EXTREMELY offended by this suggestion, as none of my entering of any thread has ever been with the intent to personally attack any member ... the only time I'll enter a discussion to disagree with a member, is because I ACTUALLY disagree with what they are actually saying .. I usually go through EXTREME lengths to give detailed reasons and facts, as well as explain the Math and logic so as to:
1- Specifically minimise the impression of it being a personal attack ...
2- Serve the basic premise of a community forum and actually help ALL fellow members learn and grow from my opinions.
To ask me to avoid other members who I feel is disseminating incorrect or even harmful information / opinions goes against the very foundational purpose of an open discussion forum.
By covering up and whitewashing discussions and replies it only goes to hurt all members.
I can understand maybe the removal of profanity (as usually it really doesn't serve any useful purpose), but the removal of almost everything else .. particularly when I (or anyone else) spent hours upon hours with the sole purpose of helping the community grow is really beyond frustrating!
I used to own/admin/moderate a large forum many years ago, and I can understand how complicated and frustrating it can be to moderate such situations. I also understand the wanting of the administration for everybody to stay on board and try to keep everything friendly. But please also remember that both your actions and inactions affect all the other members who are genuinely trying to participate in discussions and debates with the main purpose of enriching the entire community.
So NO .. I will not ignore any member who is sharing information or opinions that I feel is wrong and that I think should be politely and rationally challenged for the benefit of the entire community. Asking myself or any other constructive member to do so is flat out wrong (even and especially those who disagree with me .. as long as they are being rational and constructive .. because those are often who I learn or grow from the most).
Also NO .. I will also not stand by when a member twists facts or misrepresents what they, or others, have previously said just so they don't appear as wrong as they initially did. Not doing so gives the community the incorrect impression that the person in question has more authority and credibility than they actually merit. This is SPECIFICALLY why I asked that previous posts NOT be deleted, so as to show as proof of certain members authority, credibility, contextual/industry knowledge and even integrity (or much more importantly, lack thereof).
