Recently I backordered a domain that, according to Namejet, was to expire on that same day.

However I have now backordered it and there is absolutely no information on their website about the domain's status or what is happening.

When I select it all I see is:

You have this domain on backorder.
High Bid: $69 USD
Type: Wish List
Your Last Bid: $69 USD
Bid History: 2 bids

Interestingly enough, when I perform a whois query on it the result has been changed. It now says:

While it is now set to expire in 2015, the nameserver is set to NSX.PENDINGRENEWALDELETION.COM. Does this mean that they reserved it for me? Why am I not getting any information from them on the status of the backorder?

That domain just expired and can still be renewed for quite some time.

Alright, so how do I figure out when it will pass to me, if at all? Shouldn't Namejet take care of informing their customers? ;)

The status will change from wish list to pre-release and then to auction where you can bid on the domain.

Still, is there no ETA?

Still, is there no ETA?

I'm not sure on the exact breakdown. I think it's about 30 days from expiration before an auction in this case.

Thanks, that helps.

It surprises me that a service this big still requires me to get help from third parties. ;)

It's not really a namejet policy. This is how expirations work in general. It just takes time to learn the slight variances at each registrar.

domains get expired but usually have a renew grace period given by current Registrar where the previous owner can still renew the domain. this goes about 35 days in .com and with Network Solutions. during this time the whois changes to what you have shown and the domain gets listed as a pre-release at NameJet.

however, what has been happening for a while, following the lead of increasing prices of LLL.com, registrars are taking domains for themselves for later auction at premium values.
