Namedrive email warning!

Spaceship Spaceship

I got a disturbing email from "[email protected]" warning me that:

" a minimal number of NameDrive accounts were the targets of a security breach recently.
This affected less than 1% of our database.
"

Then advising me to:

" you should change your login passwords to any other online programs
for which you use the same password as you do to log into NameDrive.com.
"

Has any one else received this email?

Have not received the email personally, but it's been posted on numerous blogs about the "security breach"

I did get the email too. It's better to be safe than sorry, I guess. Just changed my password...

Anyway, the first few days of Feb are actually looking great on ND...at least for me.

there is a link on the failed log-in page that lets you retrieve your new password. As a security measure they just changed yours , mine and probably everyone's. You now have to change your password every 90 days.

Hope this helps.:)

i've received the same email as well... it's funny that they bother to email this to me when they didn't bother to send me any notice at all when they banned my account. hmph.

Everything seems ok .... did'nt have to change any account passwords.

Thanks EG for the corroboration .... does "breach" means they got in eeek D-:

Thats funny shockie :p .... but not funny >:(

Whitebark ... I love the ND templates and most my stuff is brandable so really they act as nice landers/parking/for sale pages. I just pulled a bum load of parked domains from bodis and moved to ND. Still hunting for the right combo ..... you know.

Firefly I agree .... in fact I change my paypal PW with every transaction (sale) of domains or purchases from a new online site.

Hi Shockie,

We send automails when accounts are suspended and I can't believe that we would have suspended someone with your rep's account just so. I appreciate this may be well after the fact, but I'd be happy to look over the issue if you PM me your ND account login.

Hya Ed,

Any reason why you would not address the thread topic but rather an individual on another issue?
Would you care to elaborate about the "issue" of a security breach?

My apologies for calling you to the matt this way .... but I was a little taken by your comment
and the absence of any explanation about the thread subject.

Security breach at namedrive ?

Received this email today..

Hello,

This is a mail to inform you that a minimal number of NameDrive accounts
were the targets of a security breach recently.
This affected less than 1% of our database.

While we do not believe that your account has been affected and we have
no indication of unauthorized access, we are informing you as a
precaution that you should change your login passwords to any other
online programs for which you use the same password as you do to log
into NameDrive.com.

Your NameDrive password has already been changed automatically for you.

If you haven't already done so, you can retrieve your new password by
logging into your account on the NameDrive homepage.

While we have always had strict security measures in place, we have
taken yet further measures to enhance our security measures with
immediate effect.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at
[email protected].

Your NameDrive team

Hi Namenut,

Sorry, I thought I had commented on the topic on NamePros as I had been commenting on it all day on other forums, but I didn't find anything directly to comment on on NPs other than shockie's comment and I thought that the 'issue' at hand was well documented by now.

http://domainnamewire.com/2009/02/04/namedrive-breached-less-than-1-of-accounts-affected/

Although we informed all those who had affected accounts within 60 minutes, we took the decision to inform all our other clients of the situation as well to clarify the situation, hence the email most of you received yesterday.

My apologies for not commenting earlier here on NamePros.

ehhh.... My mystake ED,

You always take time to keep us updated.
I work huge hours at times and can miss happenings.
I should have check around a bit for it seems I'm the last to "freak out".
I was more concerned about it being a phishing ploy playing on our fears.

As ususal "your on it" and thank you ....

Ed,
Please consider masking user's tax id number (My Account > User Options) as you do password.

current state of User Options page:
Password: **********
Tax Id: [plain text human readable tax id number]

An intruder who reaches that page probably already knows the password and is pleasantly surprised to be served the tax id number on a silver platter.
