Does anyone know of any discounts for namecheap through registering domains? I am deciding that I prefer it to GoDaddy at the moment, because I don't need a credit card, and it seems popular enough amongst namepro'ers.

Also, I want to register a poker domain name. Would .com or .net ext be better?

Only if there is a credit card on file, and I don't have one. I have several domains with GoDaddy, but they seem to have changed the procedure.

Anyway, happy enough with namecheap for now.

I once got a discount at NameCheap of $8 per name (instead of $8.88), but that was years ago when I first started reg'ing domains and purchased for $1250 (gasp) or so at once. (Now if only they all had been 'good' names!)

NameCheap do claim to have a newsletter with discount coupons, but hardly anyone that subscribes to 'em ever seems to receive them. At least, that's my impression from what I've read about that newsletter over the years, and also from personal experience.

Even though I do still dig NameCheap, nowadays I reg my many of my .COMs at DomainSite.com at $6.99 each, (and they have various other TLDs for that price as well) and I dig them. You can pay there with PayPal. The again, currently you can reg .COMs (etc..) at $5.19 each and .US (etc.) at $4.94 at GoDaddy (search this forum about the how's), so currently I reg more names there than at DomainSite.

1. I think you should stay with godaddy, and 2. I think you should go with .net though I NORMALLY profer .com

I had a bit of money to spend on this name and remained undecided, so regged them both.
