godaddy is cheaper as long as you use coupons. namecheap has less upsells but they are also a reseller of enom.

I think a couple years back Namecheap became a real registrar and is no longer an enom reseller. Verisign is showing them as an accredited registrar. Someone let me know if I'm wrong.

Godaddy has much cheaper regs if you use coupons. But godaddy also has a huge amount of upsells, as mentioned above, to wade through every time you go through the shopping cart to checkout, whereas Namecheap is very 'clean' and easy to use.
I use both registrars quite a bit. Like namecheap better but can't beat godaddy for those cheap regs. I'm speaking of dot.coms, I haven't compared pricing on country code extensions :)

I guess I'm not applying the right codes because Godaddy .COM registrations are usually $7.99 and private registration is $9.00. Namecheap .com is $10.69 with private registration. Since I buy a lot of domains from Godaddy, I've asked repeatedly for discounts with private registration and they refuse. They always tell me to get on the domain buyers club.. I am unsure about that one.

Also with Namecheap they have .CM extensions, and I have 2.

i guess it depends on your needs. i've never registered a .in nor do i use private registrations, so for me godaddy is cheaper.

as for namecheap being its own registar, i don't know. the domain i have registered with them stil say enom.

yes, it is safe to use a credit card at namecheap.

Namecheap is an ICANN accredited registrar. However, they are still using the ENOM platform because their backend is not ready yet. Namecheap only has 87 domains registered and I imagine those are for testing purposes. The rest (all the customer domains) are managed through Enom.

I read somewhere the same thing, but all the domains I have with them show enom in the whois.

One thing that you might influence your decision aside from pricing, is that GD actually has a presence in India. So they may be better equipped to handle .in support issues.

And who knows, maybe there are specific deals available to residents in India, perhaps codes via India media. tv commercials, etc.

I have not used them, but you might want to check out Big Rock which is an India-based registrar.

I expect it is safe to use a CC with Namecheap but just like with all physical products, so also with domain purchases, I prefer to use Paypal (or Google Checkout or checkout by Amazon if available) to directly using a credit card That way, instead of 50 different retailers having your CC and potentially being hacked, only two or three places need to have it to make most purchases.

I buy and sell and on eBay so PP is a must. I buy and sell on Amazon so they have my CC numbers too. I have sold a few times with Google Checkout (not allowed on eBay and most buyers on net don't use/trust it as much as PP) and bought a few as well, so they have some of my CCs too.

I really prefer Google to Paypal but you got to take what buyers expect to pay with.
