I'm a new member trying to understand how NameBucks work in the forums.

I see the Earning NameBucks FAQ says:

* Quality posts in NamePros discussion forums may be rewarded with NP$.
* Posts in the following forums will never earn NP$ bonuses: Contest Forum, Welcome Forum, or any marketplace forums ...

and I see that clicking on a Donate link by a username in a forum brings up a donation page that says:

Input Username Who would you like to donate to?
Input NameBucks How much would you like to donate?
Input Reason Reason (optional):

I understand that as saying forum users suggest a donation to another user and someone else makes the final decision. Is that correct? Is the 'someone else' the forum administrator? Is the donation limited to the amount a user suggests? Those seem clear inferences, but shouldn't these be stated explicitly in the FAQs?

Also it would help if there were some guidance as to the range and average of namebucks donated in response to forum posts. Do these figures vary significantly from forum to forum? As a newbie, I have no clue about how much to suggest donating.

Oh -- I just now noticed the Rep Points feature. Is it custom and practice to use this instead of or in addition to NP$ as a reward for good replies?

Also, I see in Chris's (NamePros staff) post in a closed thread (http://www.namepros.com/namepros-in...226-namebucks.html?highlight=answer+forum+np$) in http://www.namepros.com/namepros-info-and-suggestions, that:
* Each post and reply + 2 NP$ in domain related forums
* Each post and reply + 1 NP$ in Break Room forum
* Each post and reply + 0 NP$ in marketplace
* New threads can also receive a bonus of 1 to 15 NP$ based on the number of replies and views by other members.
Has this policy been replaced by the donation mechanism? Rep Points? If so, should the thread by reopened/edited to reflect the update?

Thanks in advance,
humanengr

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Basically...

You get NP$ when you post, refer someone, or...make a new thread.
The amount of NP$ do vary, depending on which forum gets posted in.

You can only earn NP$ for posting, when you have being a member, for so many days (60 i think), and a admin will approve your account, to be eligible.

The donate function, that allows you to donate the NP$ you have bought/earned, to anyother member on the forum.

You can trade NP$ for any type of service, templates, domains etc...

You may notice "Domain Credits", you earn these on the "Earn Credits for clicks" page seen here, http://www.namepros.com/npclicks.php - These can only be used for buying domains, using NamePros Domain Registration system (NP$ Can also be used)

You can also spend NP$ from the store, http://www.namepros.com/ushop.php
If you want to buy NP$, from PayPal and such, you can go here, http://www.namepros.com/npexchange.php The exchange.

Hope that helps you understand how the system works here.

Just ask here if there is anything else you want to know, or don't understand. :tu:
And i will be happy to help.

Is it custom and practice to donate NP$ to those who provide helpful answers to questions posted in forums? Or are they typically donated only for other reasons -- e.g., an appeal for donations? If they are given for helpful answers, how much is typically given? Does the administrator normally accept the user's suggestion of amount or is the amount adjusted to some standard?

Or does one normally just give Rep Points to reward helpful answers?

Thanks again in advance,

Usually, members tend to donate NP$ in return for a service, or a product.
Check the NP Incentive forums, and the Market Place forums to see what people offer.

Some users send NP$ in return for good posts and such...however, most users give "Rep Points".

The admin does not accept, or approve donations you give to other members.
These are instant.

Also, in most cases after a "sale", you give the buyer/seller TR, which is called "Trader Rating", like the Feedback system on Ebay.

You can see a users TR by going to their profuile (The same way to leave TR).
You will also notice "Trader Rating: (x)" in their postbit, to the left, click their number, "x", and that will also take you to view their rating. :tu:

Thanks -- that answers my main question. Is there any info on Rep Points -- in an FAQ, perhaps?

Ok. I was confused by the donations page asking "How much would you like to donate?" I read that as implying the amount would have to be approved by someone at NamePros. The "would you like" can be read different ways.

Finally, regarding Chris's 2004 post:
* Each post and reply + 2 NP$ in domain related forums
* Each post and reply + 1 NP$ in Break Room forum
* Each post and reply + 0 NP$ in marketplace
* New threads can also receive a bonus of 1 to 15 NP$ based on the number of replies and views by other members.

I see now in a 2005 post by RJ that:
In November 2005 our policies were changed to no longer promote NamePros as a pay-to-post forum. We largely discontinued the NP$ for posting program. However any of our forum leaders can approve members to earn NP$ for posting. It is not enabled automatically.

Does that mean Chris's post is no longer valid? If that's the case, should there be a pointer added to it to the updated policy?

Sounds like another helpful feature. Is it documented anywhere -- again, in an FAQ, perhaps?
