I recieved a call from a client this morning and they told they had a registered letter threathening them with allsorts of legal repercussions because they had copied a large US corporate website. The american domain is bigcompany.com and the domain in question is called bigcompany-uk.com. My client says he knows nothing about this.
I looked up whois.sc/bigcompany-uk.com and sure enough he -my client-is the admin, tech and owner contact, with his home address and work telephone number.

I believe him when he says he has had nothing to do with it.
Will post the documentation later when I recieve it.

Has anybody seen anything like this? Is it a scam? I register domains on behalf of this client and it is a bit worrying.

What should be my next move?

I received a C & D letter for a name I didn't register. It also was a UK based name.I checked the whois and sure enough all my contact information was listed except the correct email. The person who did this had the name parked and was collecting revenue from it so they could be traced to the parking company.
It was someone who was using my name and it's a form of identity theft.
I believe it was someone from this forum who did it.

It is scary. What I did was send a certified letter to the law firm who sent the C&D to my address claiming that I did not register the name nor did I ever own it.It cost me $20 to do it.:(
