Greetings,

I am establishing a software company and thinking about a good name for my company. I already thought that BitBog would be good name but some native english people opinion was that it isn't good one. This time I would like to propose "Futusoft Ltd". How does "Futusoft" sound and look for native english people point of view?

I like the idea "future soft," but sounds awkward when you pronounce it.

Hi,

I think the "Futu" part could be problematical, as it could sound like "F**U" depending on pronunciation. I'd steer clear of anything using the F and U together in a company name (especially for English speakers who seem to love using the F-word..). Maybe Dutusoft instead, if this is mis-prononouced then it would only be mangled as far as "Do Too Soft", and nothing worse.

Good luck

Quick to judge and generalize aren't we canbrit?......

Honestly I think FutuSoft doesn't sound bad at all. To me it sounds like it would be pronounced Foo-too-soft. I don't know how anyone who speaks fluent English could confuse that with profanity. I don't know if the word futu means anything else in another language but from my perspective it looks just fine.

Futusoft is indeed a very good name... & no, I didn't think, at first, that futu could be mangled for f**u until i read the thread.....its just another assumption....

I appreciate your comments! I think I will stay with Futusoft Ltd name. I have spent so many hours for finding a good name. Would you suggest other ways to pronounce Futusoft than Foo - Too - Soft.

What is your opinion about Ubi- prefix as a company name? For example Ubitron, Ubica, Ubila, ...? Do native english people misunderstand Ubi- prefix so that they pronounce it like You - bica, You - bilia. Then people might go to to Youbica.com or Youbilia.com website, even correct url would be Ubica.com or Ubila.com?

It's possible you could pronounce it as "fyoo-tyoo" -- as if you were saying the word it's modeled after, "future." I think people would read it as a derivative of "future" but probably wouldn't pronounce it that way, they'd probably default to "foo too." For it to work as "fyoo-tyoo" I think you might need a hyphen in there, not necessarily in the domain name, but in the printed name. Futu-soft. Something like that.

As far as "ubi" -- I think you can count on English speakers pronouncing it as "you-bee." I doubt many people would read it as "oo-bee" or something else.

I think I will use "fyoo-tyoo-soft" pronouncing in live meetings. "Foo-too-soft" sounds like "photoshop" or "photosoft" in my mind.

So, you pronounce "ubisoft" as "ou-bee-soft", not "you-be-soft"? Ubi should be appreviate from ubiquitous word. That should be pronounced as "you-be-qui-tous" or something like that.

Just the opposite. I think most English speakers would pronounce "ubisoft" as "you-bee-soft."

Not that my opinion is worth much, but I don't like futuSoft. It just doesn't sound right. Looks like it could be a typo of future Soft or a bad translation of foto soft. Some non english languages spell photo as foto.

I'd suggest you reg it, but keep looking a bit longer as I'm sure you can find something better. Perhaps try asking for a bit of help in the domain names wanted section, and don't be afraid to spend a few bucks for a really good name. If your company is serious it is ok to get serious about brand recognition.

Futu/Dutu wth, you naming a company or creating a new type of hot dog?

Please take extreme care while naming a company, once its done, its tough... not to mention expensive at a later date with re-branding etc. etc.

Why it might make sense to get professional help to start. Cheers!
