Name.com renewals/cancellation question

I have a domain with name.com where I also have the Gmail Apps attached to it.

I am quite happy with their service and the mailbox has become my primary mail account so obviously I want to keep this.



Now it expires by 21 September 2008. Can anyone tell me:

- does Name.com automatically renew the domain registrations through creditcard, or do I manually have to indicate that I wish to keep this domain?
- is there any specific deadline by which a manual renewal is needed?
- I originally registered for 1 year but because I am happy with the services I would like to renew my domain for 2 years at once. Probably shouldn't be a problem?

Sorry if this has been posted before. I am a bit worried because I know some registrars have deadlines as early as 2 months prior to expiration date, and I don't want to risk to see this domain expire. I really need to keep this one.

You have to renew the domain manually. I believe the renewal can take place until it's expired, but I am not sure of it. You can renew as many years as you want (of course, max 10 years).

Domain expires in September.

I can delay the renewal until August (as I have some other urgent expenses now) without any risk?
Or does the renewal have to be requested before a specific amount of time prior to the expiry date?

If it expires on 21 September 2008 you can renew it by 20th September, but ofcourse the earlier the better. Even after 21 sep you can renew but it would be more costly.

I definitely will renew before 21st September, as my primary mail account has the domain, so I cannot afford to have it inactive for a while. I just needed to know if renewal had to be done before a specific deadline (like some registrars asking to cancel/renew at least a month before expiry) or if I could renew the domain at any given time before expiry date without risking the mailbox to be inactive.

I will normally not wait till the last weeks anyway, probably will do it next month after my next salary slip
