It's nice to look back in history sometimes. However, as time changes, so does society, technology, car designs, engineering, politicians, laws, our education system, the judicial process, business licensing procedures, forum rules, inventions, etc.. Just because something was ok to do in the 1800's / 1930's / or even 2005, doesn't mean it's still applicable in 2013 / 2014.
I appreciate your reminder and feedback about how the rules used to be, however as with anything over time, things tend to change a little. Can exceptions be made occasionally with some things? Sure, depending on all circumstances.
We are still seeing members from 2003 / 2004 revisiting & using their accounts again after 6 / 7 / 8 years of being away. They may be pretty disappointed if they were no longer able to use their account anymore. However, we do have a clause that allows us to terminate service of a member at anytime, reclaim their name and reissue it to someone else.
Granted, there's still lots of circumstances involved and each case has to be evaluated individually. Many people may not want to take on an account / username that has a bad history attached to it, not to mention all the members that may have been burned by the username all those years ago that are still upset about it. And that's just one scenario.
So just to clarify, While we do have a policy in (2013 / 2014) against such account reassignment. There may be rare cases where we approve such a thing.
Thanks for understanding and for your valuable feedback,
Eric Lyon
