What is required to keep the business operational?

Advertising costs are restricted to Facebook retargeting ads. Currently in order to maintain SEO social signals are necessary, which is why we run active Facebook and Instagram pages.

By using SEO we make sure the business model works and resembles a passive income method more than regular ad based e-com.

Why are you selling the business?

Making and selling just established businesses is what I do for a living. I do not only sell working websites but I sell websites that your customers now care about, love and feel a connection to. That's the secret of a long lasting profitable site.

How does the business generate revenue?

In time we figured what our customers were looking for and slowly built the business on top of these items. Due to the nature of sourcing some of these products, like lightsabers which are rare and expensive, we created relationships with private makers in the lightsaber community, as well as resellers in China for products with higher margins.

As the website became known we started working on new ways of advertising such as partnerships with associations around the globe, particularly in our country of origin, we've given merchandise to several entities in order to promote a healthy relationship. These entities now carry our logo in their events and promote our website in their own websites.

The business model is quite simple in itself, but it varies depending on who sources the products. It's basically a drop shipping site, using Oberlo, MXED, eBay, Alibaba and specific merchants we've done private deals with in order to properly supply the products to our customers. MXED though only ships to the US and sells only official licensed products.

Profit varies according to the supplier and purchase location. Sometimes shipping to remote areas such as Australia will reduce the profit margins to around 5-10% so you should be very careful when setting prices and take that particular detail into account in order to prevent losses.

Are there any expenses for the business? If so, what are they?

  • Shopify plan - 31.00/month
  • Subscriptions (ie. MailChimp, apps) - $6.00/month
  • Advertising (ie. Adwords, Facebook ads, etc.) - $5.00/month
  • Domain - $0.00/month
What have marketing initiatives been used for this business?

The website comes with 2 different themes, optimized for conversion(the latest is far more optimized than the previous) and branded to MyStoreWars. These themes have been custom developed from a base theme and have a few necessary integrations that promote conversion in a non-spammy way. We have customers spending hours in our site and a bounce rate that keeps growing lower and lower.

While the website relies deeply on it's 2000-4000 monthly visits from Google in order to make a profit, we have active social pages, particularly on Instagram and Facebook that keep a community following and result in occasional sales. We've done ad testing on different platforms such as Reddit, facebook and google before, but it is not beneficial as the costs far outweigh the benefits when comparing to the investment needed to have the same results via SEO.

A full e-mail workflow has been set up using Klaviyo so that no customers are lost. There are emails for several activities, such as on visit, on add to cart, on first purchase, on second purchase, etc.. that make sure we're not losing customers that leave our site. We also do retarget with Facebook ads

How can the future owner improve the business?

While so much work was put into it, it still needs more work in order to keep improving conversion, such as more investment in SEO in some keywords(we'll share our current plan and all the marketing related information we have with the buyer), better copy in some of the products and correction of a few product images. These are just a few cases as we've mostly worked out all of these issues.

Since it's creation, we have put utmost respect for our customers and we act as their own protectors, taking responsibility for any and all issues that arise from any suppliers. We have refunded items when necessary, strived for reviews and answered all their needs as if they were our bosses. This has made them quite satisfied with our services, even in situations where we could not get their products to them due to shipping issues our lost packages.

As you can see this is a solid business with 0 reasons to fail, it's been carefully built and has become a recognizable place for star wars fans to purchase their merchandise.
