My first serious expired auction...Help me!

I truly like this domain name. It fits perfectly with a site I have in development and it has a good reputation. Some sites still link to it even though it has not been in use for over 18 months. This is my first serious attempt at acquiring an expiring domain name. I placed my bid at NameWinner. After an initial bid of $40 it asked me to bid again so I bid $50 (I’m willing to bid as high as $200 if I have to). My question since I’m such a newbie is what’s going on? Why did I have to increase my bid? I’m guessing that someone had already bid $40 and may be in the auction with me; So what can I expect from here? Has anyone used NW and if so what might I expect if someone does want to bid with me? Is it like ebay?

If its expired and you are trying to grab it someone else may have also put in a offer before it expired to backorder it. Now in effect you bid against each other. Whoever goes highest gets it. I think.

Has the name dropped already or is it dropping soon?

I wouldnt put all my money on NW catching the name, theres many other catch services out there which IMHO do far better at catching names.

If you have bid $30 on this name, then you may wait until NW catch it ,after that you will enter a new auction, you don;t need bid it again before this name dropped.

Hey tippy, have you heard that NW now has exclusive grab rights, something like Snapnames? Don't know which registrars specifically, but definitely expiring names from Dotster. You can search names out using the expiring partner option, and the names are denoted with yellow stars.

Thanks for that info Mole, I didnt know that, seems like this type of registrar exclusive grab thingy is the way of the future... its a smart move on their part.

Update...

Thanks for all of the help so far. I truly appreciate how helpful everyone always is at this site.

Here’s an update. As of 4PM NameWinner says that I still have the highest bid, however, the site now has a landing page with Oingo (when the URL is typed it takes you to a search landing page that rests at http://apps5.oingo.com/apps/domainpark/domainpark). At first I though this may have meant that I lost it but I can’t tell. What’s going on here? I tried to contact NameWinner but as of this writing I have had no response. Is this normal to see the site on a landing page at this point? Does it mean I lost or could it be in use by NameWinner?

Thanks again for all of the help...

It's not easy to grab expired domain if there are so many people want and this domain has a lot traffic and extension.

I am trying to grab 1 domain like this, and although there is more than 24 hour left, it's already over 100... lol

I'm not sure, but probally whomever has the highest big will win it. But I dont know, because I've never heard of NameWinner.
