I just registered my first IDN. I've had next to no experience with them, and I know almost nothing about them. I just started having a look around this section of the forum last night, so please forgive me if the name is worthless ;)
Anyway, the domain is ғ.com (xn--23a.com). Any views on it would be greatly appreciated.
ғ is actually a letter in the Cyrillic alphabet, and looks a lot like F of the Latin alphabet. I'm not sure on the value of single character/letter .com IDNs, but is this one any good? If single letter .com IDNs are worth anything, do you think it would be worthwhile me registering another couple?
Also, if I were to ask for an appraisal on the name, would it be better to post it here or in the actual appraisal forum?
Thanks for your time,
Harry Truman.

Single character IDNs are very sought after and most of them have been taken by now - even in .net.

"ғ" seems to be used in the Kazakh and Uzbek languages with total speakers of 12M and 22M, respectively. Maybe not as common as characters used in Russian but it is still a single character. Appraisal is difficult, but single characters from other more popular languages have been offered for around $1K - and this will only go higher in time. I'd say low $xxx to high $xx right now (mainly because of the number of speakers and penetration of the internet in these countries).

Thumbs up from me. :imho:

Letter

Ғ, ғ

1. The fifth letter of the Cyrillic alphabet as formerly used for Azeri, preceded by Г and followed by Д, and representing /ɣ/. Since 1991, this sound has been spelt Ǧ.
2. The sixth letter of the Cyrillic alphabet for Kazakh, preceded by Г and followed by Д, pronounced as Arabic غ, or French r.

Yes, all single characters will eventually have some value. This one is a bit obscure, so don't get over excited. We believe in the characters and have invested in Russian Cyrillics, Arabic, Hiragana, Indic Scripts, not to mention loads of Chinese.

Thank you both for your detailed replies, I really appreciate that, as I am still trying to learn more and more about IDNs. As for single character IDNs being taken even in .nets, I've found quite a few available ones, if anyone is interested. Should I post them here for you, and do you think it would be worth me investing in maybe one or two more single character .com IDNs?
Thanks again,
Harry Truman.

As Rubber Duck alluded, the most valuable single character domains will most likely be from the languages with the largest speaking populations.

I'd probably avoid single character .nets from less spoken languages. For the .coms it's really a judgement call. But having a few of those in your portfolio is definitely not a bad thing.

Good luck.

Thanks thefabfive, I think I will try registering one or two more of the .com ones. I've found several more available, mostly Slavic or Archaic Cyrillic letters, and a lot in the Armenian alphabet. I'll probably register a couple more of the Cyrillic ones, then post the list I have here.
Thanks again everyone.
