My 2012 Doomsday Website

I sort of rushed this after college finals finished, but this is what I have made over the past few days. Just another fun development I am working on. Except this one is actually getting uploaded!

It's obviously a work in progress and in its very early stages, and since I cannot work on it until January 10th (going on a long vacation) I thought maybe I could get some early feedback on how to improve things. There's very little content (only one real article at this point), but you get the point of things will look or would look if there was more. Also, I don't know why I have a gray box on the front page, I'm still trying to figure out what to do there. But no time now, as I've got a plane to catch in 10 hours.

It's not really clear what the website purpose is; it would be good to have a logo and clear title at the top.
Also moving the search box to the right, and making the text for the Navigation larger than the Google Ads, may help the visual hiearchy alot more.

Review

This site unfortunately lacks in almost every area i look at.

I like the site name. And your logo is very creative. It points out what your website AND it its picture shows a little about your site. Very creative. And well incorporated, even if by accident. Not many people can do that. Glad to see a out-of-the-box thinker.

The layout is also good. The dark creates a scary feeling, well suited to the doomsday idea.

Critic Time:

Your site has too many blank areas and lacks in content. I understand that it is in its early stages so it shouldn't be a problem at the finished project.

I am the kind of person that looks at both sides and is mostly unbias. But I am rambling. My point: Why suit one person's belief when you can do both. Your name clearly doesn't restrain you to one side. So talk about how it can't be true.

And if your lacking information. My advice--watch history channel for a week.

My last tip of advice. Make that countdown bigger and better. Truthfully, I stared at that for a long time. Just watching it count down. Ha.

Try to increase it in size and make it one of those fancy digital countdowns. Put drama in i. Spice up your site. A youtube video would also be good.

Hey, thanks for the reviews. I know it lacks a lot of content, and unfortunately, I will not be able to update it until middle/late January. I was more or less asking for a design review, since I agree content is lacking. I only had time to make one article before leaving for vacation. I wasn't sure about the text size. I didn't really get much a chance to play around with that - it was actually the first thing I was planning when coming back. And about the countdown, thanks for the tip - I knew it was lacking somehow!

Thanks for the link, but there's no way I'm infringing on the London 2012 games. I am not squatting on a 2012 domain, and my website has nothing to do with the Olympic games. The use of the word 2012 in my domain pertains to the historical context of it.

If by any chance London 2012 shows up in my Adsense I will modify them to remove any of those. But once more content is up that should not be a problem anyway.

What the purpose of the site and too dark

I like the idea of the site and I see the whole Myan calander information combined with other ideas of their end of the world being covered.

I also like the template being used.

-The white letters are a bit small on the black background making it a bit blurry.

-The count down should be bigger and labeled as the count down to 2012.

-The reason for the site or a simple tag line under the name of the site should explain what the site is for. I know this is a popular idea on the net right now but at first glance 2012 Info could be anything. (sorry but logical does not help it out for focus to the intial visitor).

-The intial home explanation of what the site it about should have a little more focus(as in the eye focuses on) so visitors know what u are trying to get across, that the site is not one sided or focused on just non-scientific explanations.

Just what I can see......I like the idea and have read much about 2012.

All right, I need a new review. Been working on it since this past weekend after I got back from vacation. The forum is phpBB, but I cannot afford vBulletin at this time, so it has to do.

Still a lot of work to do... but now I feel people can get the idea of what this site is actually about, and how it will look.

The forums looks fine.. but I do not think that you developed this site just for the purpose of having a forum inside it. When you talk about the logical 2012, you have mentioned about a few things, but you can obviously have some more details regarding the software technologies, and may be some more interesting facts like something related to Sports and Games etc.
I would also like to point out some more facts regarding the overall design and layout of the site. The site should be more clear and readable for the viewers, else they would rather skip reading the small fonts. So, keeping in mind these things, if you can modify the layout and can add some more graphical illusions which can impress the viewers, it would be very nice.

Is it really the font you find too small, or is more the white text against dark background? The white text against dark background can be fixed with some images I agree, but I don't think I can make the text too much larger as I have only used an 800px wrapper.

Also, please pardon my awful typos you may run into. As look back over sometime I see some pretty bad typos. Those will slowly phase out.
