Have you noticed the large number of bands, musicians, singers and music producers who use .tv ?

Well, music and TV have been going hand in hand for many many years with lots of very successful music TV channels everywhere in the world. So it's not really a surprise to see that they get involved in .tv

More and more artists from the great world of music are now using .tv domains for their official websites and I thought it could be an interesting idea to keep track of them in this thread.

Here are a few to start with...

Firewater, New York-based indie rock band
http://www.firewater.tv

The Kills, anglo-american post-punk indie rock band
http://www.thekills.tv

Tom Vek, alternative/experimental musician from London who, amongst other things, has contributed to the Grand Theft Auto IV soundtrack
http://www.tomvek.tv

Zebrahead, rap/punk band from Orange County, California
http://www.zebrahead.tv

Calvin Harris, Scottish singer-songwriter and producer
http://www.calvinharris.tv

Feel free to contribute and to add the bands, singers and musicians you know who are using .tv for their official websites, whatever their style, whether they're well-known or still unsigned.

We've been talking about British and American bands/singers in this thread so far, but then again, music and .tv go together in the rest of the world too.

An example amongst others would be Minerale, a indie pop-rock band from Belgium whose official website is :

Yes, Music + .TV = Great combo. Some excellent examples given by everyone.

I think DeluxeMusic.TV (redirects to DeluxeTelevision.com) is a very good one.

And I see stickers/posters scattered over london for http://www.calvinharris.tv/

Excellent thread starter Michael. Music and video go hand in hand, and Music is one of the Holy Grails of the Internet.

In February this year, a member of this forum - SKG - launched:

http://bands.tv

Here is the NP thread re the launch:
http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/437962-official-bands-tv-thread.html?highlight=bands.tv

The difficulties of mass distributing video content, which music lends itself too, is very complex and expensive if you want high quality video (that is capable of being massively scaled), and particularly if you are streaming it live. From what I have read and my understanding, the team behind Bands.tv is aiming for live streaming of independent musicians utilizing a dedicated Content Distribution Network (CDN).

For an "unknown" start-up band do this on their own from their own website is an impossibility due to the sign up costs and long term commitment to a CDN provider. However, if the artists are aggregated like Bands.tv is on about, or an artist gets "traction" from a site like MySpace (recent example being "Bubbly" - Colbie Caillat), then anything is possible.

Great post, Heroes. You're raising a number of important issues around the convergence between the world of music/entertainment and online video.

The cost of bandwidth and live streaming as well as the relatively low speeds of current broadband connections are two major problems.

However as new technologies are getting used, the overall cost of delivering live streaming of music and video online will go down, and this will increase the opportunities both for music-related .tv sites and for artists themselves.

Morever as more high quality video will be available via live streaming, this will open brand new monetization possibilities, and especially the possibility of subscriptions.

It's difficult to charge users for low-quality Youtube-style video online, but more people will agree to pay for a subscription if they know they will get high quality video, which is something that can cover the cost of delivering live streaming to them in the future.

Abstracts.tv

That's what I have been trying to say for over a year now, with my www.Abstracts.tv , and www.Tex-Mex.tv . The .tv is the perfect match for music ,and video! Even if a band, or musician, don't have a website, or a .tv, they can stillget on Youtube, and then sites like mine! For me, it's just a way to group all the music I like, for me, and friends! My Abstracts.tv now has a Google PR of 5, a year later.
As stated by Michaeldotcom, Youtube videos are low quality, but I don't think most people, or bands care. They just want other people to see them on the intrenet.

They probably choose them because they have a slight relationship with music videos.

People dont think of registering .TV names cause theyre pretty awful unless directly related to Television IMHO

Yeah yeah... That's probably why .tv is the fastest-growing TLD now...

Anyway, what does this post have to do with the content of this thread ? :td:

Snoop and Jiblob ( sounds like an eighties cop show)

If you care to actually do some research from either this or previous threads you will see why you are so wrong.
As Michael has already said, it is the fastest growing tld and is also being embraced by companies from all sectors worldwide.

Thanks so much, Bob, for the great research you've done ! :tu:

Those are some awesome .tv sites, both very well designed and with excellent video content.

Definitely great examples for anybody trying to develop some nice music-related .tv sites.

Does anyone here run a musci related .tv ?
I have no doubt that a nice music tv can attract a good amount of people everyday. However,I am very curious, how much revenue can a music site actually earn ? Adsense and parking will not provide a good income for music site, which I already verified from my own site. In this case, does any one have any other idea for how to generate income from music site ?

Many thanks,

Music and .TV.... I feel very strongly about this which is why I bought a few music domains. I have also kind of developed mixing.tv and grooves.tv. But I also plan to do something more serious with jingles (music for podcasts - a sideline we are working towards) and sequencer (Cubase video tips and tricks for music producers).

Music domains are perrrrfect for the extension!

I totally agree. BTW, grooves.tv is a nice site. Good job.

Please allow me to rephrase my question. How can we generate income from a music site with traffics ? (concerning about copyright, expense .... )
