After hearing of today's three-letter name sale for $33k - I immediately started to think the following:

1. Where's that 3-letter list I made?

2. How many interesting three-letter names do I already own?

3. Why would anyone want to spend $33k on a name!!!

4. How can I get my share of the 17576 possible 3-letter names before everyone else (only joking)

5. Are we REALLY at the stage where 3-letter names are in demand, like happened to .com's years ago?

..but then I wondered something else. If this sale affects the demand in 3-letter names, what on earth will it do to 2-letter ones?

While there are 17576 three-letter names, the finite number of two-letter names is just 676 - and the majority of those are held back by the registrars.

Are two-letter names now the new chase-me item?

I think as far as LLL are concerned...be very careful! Lots are left unregistered which clearly shows that demand is low. The sale of MTS is great but certainly will not be a normal occurrence for LLL .tv. I would buy LLL with dev in mind, not resale.

LL.tv who knows. Is there a history of big sales? Of course keep in mind there are a few sitting unregistered for high $xxxx. That means a 5 figure sale, while it sounds nice, really isn't that much of a profit. Then of course you have folks who hold LL and pay premium fees year after year to hold them. I think keywords are far superior to LL and LLL but that's just my opinion :)

JohnTv had a big sale of RT.tv for $62,500

James Barclay had an interesting sale when DE.tv went for $21500

I'm sure there are many others.

...and I sold NP.tv two weeks ago (!!!!!!)

...but thankfully I kept UR ED RS and US

Those sound great but my question would be how much did they have invested in those domains? A 100k sale sounds awesome until I fess up to paying 95k for the domain myself ;)

I would say of all the 2 letter LL.tv, UK.tv is #1 and than US.tv #2. UK.tv by far the best because of standard renewal. Both should command over XXX,XXX with right buyer.

The other LL.tv, it depends on what it is, what can it mean, is it a word as well such as, BE.tv, or does a big end-user go by those initials.

yes i think words are better that acronyms, and as mentioned the holding costs contribute to the loss of profit over time

i guess it's a case of how long you can hold on to them, it may work out longer than some marriages ????

Lottery win for the owner, ie low odds. People just registering random available 3 letter .tv's are likely to lose a lot of money in my view, the reg fees are too high compared to actual demand. If they were $1/yr it might be something that is viable.

I agree. It's the same in .co. One guy lucked out with abm.co (or something) for $15,000. Buyers wanted it at any price, end of discussion.

No one else can get anything for their lll.co

lll.com has commodity value. Not sure about .net/org.

Original question:

Has no impact on ll.TV - that's a domainer mentality.

While Doc Martens might like DM.tv, I'm pretty sure Vans like Vans.TV and Juniper Networks like Juniper.TV (I shouldn't pick this as it was a UDRP loss for them :) ).

I'm not sure a sale to Juniper.TV would affect Shrub.TV any.

BUT TO PUT THIS ALL IN PERSPECTIVE.

mts.TV as a domain for your company vs 30 seconds air time between Conan on TBS. It's all small money investment for big companies :)

Now that is domainer logic. It is also less than the price of one gold bar....therefore it isn't much money for a big company?

The first participant of auction - mts.ca and the second mts.ru.

The third - I do not know.

I congratulate seller this victory :)
