Hi all, I am looking for some advice from any members who are either from Australia, live in Australia or have been there before.

My wife and I are considering moving out there from the UK (initially for just a few years and see how it goes). We are both well qualified people in our respective fields and I don't anticipate any real problems getting work. My main questions is, 'where would you recomend going to?' We are considering NSW (Sydney etc) but I have read that Melbourne may be better. I would also be interested in hearing any other advice people could offer.

Thanks, Mike :)

Hey Mike it will be nice to see you here :)
It really depends on what lifestyle you are looking for. Sydney NSW & Melbourne VIC are both busy cities which is nice if you like the city! Sydney has a much nicer climate (warmer) than Melbourne but if your looking for something out of the city I would suggest the central coast maybe newcastle or gosford which is only aobut 1-2 hours from sydney :hi:

Good to hear you coming to live with us down in Australia.

Firstly, do some easy Googling and you will find a lot of information about all the cities around Australia. For busy and working lifestyles, Sydney and Melbourne are the places to live at. Queensland's weather is hot and it has a more recreational lifestyle there, but still, it's a great place to live. Sydney is expanding quite quickly nowadays further away from the city. Housing costs a lot inside the city just like any other city in the world.

I live in Canberra. Quiet. Peaceful. Work. Cold. :) If you are after a calm and quiet atmosphere, come to the capital of Australia. With only 300,000 citizens living in Canberra, it is very easy to get around. Just really cold weather in Winter [Which it is now]. Otherwise, it's a good city to live in :hehe:

Perth, Darwin and Tasmania are your remaining cities. Perth is located in the far west, not much there although again, it is quiet and has a small city. Darwin is located in the north, very hot and isn't really suited for business type people as it is an agricultural city. Tasmania is the small island off Australia in the south. A small population, don't hear much about it in the news, don't know why. Cool weather there, and easy going lifestyle.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask us anything you feel unsure about :p

Ah, I've never been there, but Australia is #1 in my list of places to live permanently (I hope to move around a bit first) :) Maybe one day... I'm only 16 now

Best of luck in your move, I am sure you will be very happy :tu:

Thanks for the quick responses and the kind words guys :tu:

We are both very excited about the move and looking forward to it. It is going to take some time to sort out I think.

The information you have supplied above is very helpful and we will take all your recommendations into consideration when making our decision!

My sincere thanks once again!

Mike :)

Where's ADELAIDE?!!! :'( I'm here...(and I love it here )

Adelaide has a small, peaceful and quiet city too, the lifestyle's kinda slow but nice (wellwelwell, at least to me). But as someone suggested, the cities with the most businesses in operation are those like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane... but not adelaide. Expect some (definite) disappointment if you're after a very modern, fast-paced city :hehe:

Doing some concrete research on the employment state of your field is essential for a satisfactory job. Living-wise, adelaide is just a city perfect for sitting back and reflecting on life %%- (and the living costs are lower too)

Welcome on board!
