I am not sure if this will help anyone or
not, but I have seen several threads on
moving databases from existing directories.
I decided to try something and I have been
experimenting with this. Cause I'm a n00b to this
kind of stuff and alot of the threads went without
an explanation that I could understand.
So in simple terms:
I have an active directory on domain.a
I want to create a new directory on domain.b
but want to use the domain.a's current database.
So here's what I did....
I went to cpanel for domain.a
logged into the phpmyadmin (bottom of msql database page)
clicked on the left hand side the name of the database.
Then clicked on select all - export - then go.
Saved it to my desktop.
Then I went to domain.b's control panel and added a new
database - called the exact same as domain.a's
Then clicked again on the left hand side (name of db)
and then - click on the right hand side - select all -import -
UNTICK the question about template. then click go.
you will get a message saying xxxx number of files transferred. - success!
after doing that I went and got a new script and installed the
new directory on domain.b
When it asked my database name - I put in the name of domain.a's
database.
and to my disbelief.....IT WORKED. At first appearaance anyway!
Now domain.a and domain.b are 2 separate directories.
domain.b being "new" has started with over 1100 already in place.
I can't believe it worked and I will be experimenting alittle more
to see if it's actually how I think it is.
It seemed like a very difficult process by reading the threads and I was
just curious...so again, not sure if it's completed properly, but I will update if all seems well. And if that's the case, then it was easier than I thought it would be!
Which makes me happy :D
