Hi guys,

If I know there is a movie in production called let's say 'X', is it a good idea to grab Xmovie.com and offer it to the producer in some unobtrusive way? Also is there a good place to check for US trademarks, lazy to google this thought you may know. thanks.

I own 4 or 5 domains that are "movienamemovie.com". The movie names aren't TMed but they are also pretty generic terms anyway. A couple are old movies that are being remade (eg, gaslightmovie.com). I've notice that Disney and Pixar reg names many years in advance for projects they are working on so I'd stay away from them. Stick to movie names that are generic if you're going to risk regging the names and avoid names that have TMed characters in the title (such as Spiderman, Smurfs - yes, there's a smurfs movie coming out, etc).

I wouldn't approach the movie company to sell though - I doubt they'll buy. Someone on another forum owns datemovie.com. Did they buy it from him? Nah, they thought it was a better idea to reg datemoviethemovie.com. I highly doubt you'll sel it to the production co - but rather make decent PPC on it when the movie is released - or sell it to another domainer.

I always figured one domain I would love is movie.com. Surely with a bit of marketing you could get film studios using x.movie.com?

My point exactly - I don't know of any instances where the production co has bought the "moviename.com" or "movienamemovie.com" from a domainer. Next time you're at the theater look at the dn's on the bottom of the movie posters. Some of them are ridiculous and impossible to remember. I think the only money domainers will make from good movie names is off of type-in traffic to their site.

Just found out: the producer comapny registered <moviename>themovie.com back in March 2005! And now I own <moviename>movie.com don't know what to do with it though.. The movie is to be released this year.

I contacted him. No TM issue with mine since it was just the phrase and not an obvious infringement on the movie.. go ahead and contact him, just you may have to give it for free.

SevereClearMovie.com

I had written them an email, but never got a response, probably my email has been sorted to a 'Spam' folder since I've written from my yahoo account.

Your domain will get more type in traffic than theirs I am sure.

Make sure you stick up a site if they don't reply, ride the wave and make some money.
