a while ago many people were recommending Moniker for valuable names saying it was the most secure. Is this still the best one?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
GoDaddyGoDaddy
Moniker is recommended but I most of of my domains are registered by Netfirms and Dynadot.

Moniker is advertising their new protection:
http://www.moniker.com/maxlock/portfolio/

It's priced 299$/year, first year 239$. I don't know whether it worth or not but if your portfolio is very valuable then you may consider this as a good option.

Why would you pay for maxlock. If you want a secure registrar check out www.pairnic.com, they have a security lock that requires you to fax in photo id along with a special code.

I think Godaddy is most secure...

Fabulous has custom questions (written by you) to access special parts of your account.

Actually security begins at your very personal computer. Use firewalls, antivirus programs and a secure browser. Do not use public computers, if you have to use them for checking email in hollidays etc. open a dumb account and forward your mails to that dumb account when you're in holliday.

As Coupons has already mentioned, we give customers the ability to set custom questions which protect certain areas of your account. More information about this feature and our Executive Lock below:

Challenge / Response Security:

The Challenge/Response security system provides extra protection for the domain transfer, domain push and domain sales processes.

Challenge/Response is a security mechanism that allows you to supply the answers to a preset list of questions, in order to verify the identity of a user before they can access these sensitive areas of your account, including Transfers, Pushes, Sales and Name Servers.

This is an optional feature which has been designed to decrease the likelihood of domain theft should your account password be stolen or otherwise compromised.

Executive Lock:

An Executive Lock adds another level of protection to a domain name.

The Executive lock effectively freezes a domain's registry settings, and can only be removed by Fabulous management after any special conditions specified by the client have been fulfilled.

A domain name under Executive lock cannot:

* Be transferred out to another Registrar
* Be pushed to another Fabulous account
* Have changes to its Nameserver settings
* Have the Registrar-Lock status removed

Let me know if anyone has any questions about these features.

Cheers,

Mike

I would also resonate the claim that security begins with your business machine, stop advising people your machine make and model, ISP, physical location, whois registry related look uppable data pieces so someone might be able to pirate your pipe.
Use privacy on a domain that will expect a lot of lookup traffic.

I think Godaddy does well with the lock unlock function. Can't be transferred unless that puppy is in play, correct?

lock/unlock is the standard feature at most registrars which works fine as long as your username/password doesn't get loose, the security questions at Fabulous are just an extra layer of protection that prevents someone who gains your username/password from unlocking or transferring your domains unless they know the answers to 1-5 security questions that you create yourself, the executive lock feature should only be used on premium domains but stops a domain from being altered or transferred without Fabulous assistance which is even stronger then the security questions, in my opinion Fabulous is the most secure registrar, they currently support .com, .net, .org, and .info so I use Moniker for the rest.

I used to register everything at godaddy, but I've been slowly transferring to Moniker around expiration dates since I've heard they were the most secure. I would say that for the most part godaddy is fine, but if you have really valuable domains, you might want to transfer to moniker and use maxlock
