I am thinking about selling some of my super premium and premium .US domains to end-users in their perspective markets, I am not that much interested in the liquid (wholesale) value, but rather like to know where they fall as far as their ultimate end-user value in the current market and also their long term potentials.

Airline(.)US

Church(.)US

Mortgage(.)US

Depression(.)US

ForSale(.)US

Posture(.)US

OnlineGames(.)US

Oath(.)US

Rifle(.)US

Church.us I would appraise in the region of 3-5k resale 5-10k end user.

Mortgage.us, is a really tough one for the simple reason that to find an end user with the capital to develop the site is going to be hard. Most mortgage companies already have their "brand" established. Unless they are going to rebrand to mortgage.us, highly unlikely, then I cannot see them being interested in it. That begs the question who will buy it, or more importantly, who will buy it at the amount you want to sell it for. In that regard I can only see some affiliate, passive ppc, revenue and not an end user. More likely it will either stay in your portfolio, till age or infirmity force a sale, or you will end up selling it to a developer/reseller. Price, 10k tops, unless you are very very very lucky and I find that highly unlikely given the end user's you will be trying to target.

Since Citibank already has a website at mortgage(.)com, I would contact them first and ask for 75K for mortgage(.)us. Likewise,
GlaxoSmithKline has a website at depression(.)com.

First send a letter directly to the president of these companies. It should be kicked down to someone else, who will take these offers seriously as they were kicked down from the President, who might later make inquiries about your offer.

As great of a domain as Mortgage.us is, it is virtually impossible to get a hold of a decision make in a company that size.

Thanks again for all the constructive opinions,

When it comes to category killer domains in .US , which one of these options do you all think is best to pursue (you can put them in the order of priority and expand on the pros and cons of each option):

- Hold (undeveloped until it matures)

- Park (with a for sale link)

- Develop small (simple site just to get it indexed)

- Develop big (full-fledged site like a business)

- Sell now (for the most you can get from end-users)

- Lease (to major corporations)

I have long term faith in .US, and since Mortgage is in the top handful of words I would not consider selling now unless you received a great offer.

Any of the options are better than selling. Even with an exact match domain though it will still be very hard to rank for "Mortgage" with so much competition.

mortgage.us is the best domain you have ( i think : )

2 bad points.

Impossible to sell at it's full value (in this market) domain and mortgage wise.

Impossible to develop into a massive money maker ($100,000) may get you somewhere with a name like this. If you dont have a veryvery large budget then dont even try IMHO!

I have 1 .us domain i would not sell for less than $50,000

I think you should hold out for double that,
But not in the next few years unfortunetly.

It's a keeper thats for sure,

I would not try to develop yourself, but go to a lead generation company and let them do all the hard work for you.

and reap the benefits of there expert developers/affiliates.

With a name like this you hold all the cards i think,
The worst they can say is NO :)

Good luck.

we'll see this sell for $100,000 + down the line. (2/3 yrs)

I would NOT develop mortgage.us.

All you will do is potentially ruin a good name because you don't have the dedication to do it properly.

I'm not sure who would want it.. it's one of those sounds so great.. but who wants it?

Most mortgages are garnered locally. Most online mortgages are from HEAVILY advertised/marketing brands. Not sure anyone would build a presence AROUND this name.

It's surely worth a lot but it's almost too good and generic.

defaultuser,

You are saying that I shouldn’t develop this domain, and you are doubtful if anyone would want to build a presence around it, well that doesn’t leave that many options for me.:|

By the way isn’t it a little presumptuous of you when talking about the level of my dedication towards developing this domain. If I decide to develop this domain I will most definitely check into getting it done professionally. B-)

It's not presumptuous at all. Perhaps a too literal reading of your statements and a difference in opinion of the desired end results.

You statements were:

I’ll be better off if I did some serious development with these domains myself, although I still need to sell a few domains in order to fund my development project, but I rather keep the ones that have the most potential for development and sell some of the less valuable ones.

and

before spending a few grand on making a full fledged website on my top domains

To develop mortgage.us into the heavy hitter would require more than "yourself" and more than "less valuable domain sales" or a "few grand". I've heard people say they can build something great for under $10 K with good outsourcing deals but I'd be hard pressed to imagine building something that would make > 10K spending 10K on this domain.

That's what I mean by you're not dedicated. If you want to put together a business plan and really scope out and scale up something then more power to you. I read your posts as.. "I guess I could develop". It's not about "guessing" with this one :)

My sole point was: if you knock up a small crappy site thinking it's a good intermediate solution, it's probably not.

If this was a diamond... would you post on a group saying "I found this diamond, it's really nice... don't know if I should sell it or cut it myself" ? If cut it myself means taking it to Antwerp and paying handsomely to make it something worthwhile then great. If that's what you meant then I wasn't presumptuous - I just misunderstood.

With regards to someone building a presence around it... it's too generic in my mind. This does not preclude someone from paying a HEFTY sum for it and I didn't mean to suggest that it would.

My advice was simply. When you want to sell it and you get an offer you are willing to sell it for then the deal should be done. In the mean time, be patient. Panic won't get you the best deal. Confidence in your domain will. Any guesses on here are just that.. guesses.

That's all.

If you want to sell, but are lookin for "enduser" prices then in my view you are probably going to be trying to sell for a very long time. If you want endusers wait or be prepared to do alot of legwork (which may or may not be worth it in terms of the price difference).

The average enduser won't pay anywhere near reseller prices (most won't even be interested) so be prepared to knock on a lot of doors, a billion company won't neccessarily pay more than [email protected] either. There is no easy answer here. Reseller prices are what you are likely to get *if* you really want to sell.

So personally I'd be looking at what you can really get here and now, and then deciding whether you'd prefer to hold or not.

I guess there must have been a little misunderstanding about me saying that I might consider developing it myself, It wasn’t meant as me doing the actual coding and design work myself (unless I can become a developer and a SEO real fast :) ) , but rather getting it done professionally and making it into an informational based website that would help educate people about their options and choices in this new economic environment. Once I get some traffic (perhaps by getting some professional SEO work done) then I plan on monetizing it through selling ad space to direct advertisers. So if I don’t get high enough offers that would be within my acceptable range then my plan B is to put this and my other top domains to some good use myself.

Snoopy, I am surprised at what you are saying, most resellers that I know of want to buy premium domains on the cheap so that they can sell them to end-users for 10 fold profit. I rather explore the end-user market myself first and if I am not successful in getting an offer that falls within my acceptable range then most probably I am going to go with my development plan that I have explained above.

They mainly buy to sell to other resellers in my view. Some will try with endusers but unless it is a $50 name being resold for $500 the chance of an enduser paying 10 times what a reseller would have paid is extremely remote. Eg taking a $2000 name and trying to sell it for $20,000. Highly unlikely and I haven't seen too many domain flippers driving gold BMW's lately.

When you start contacting endusers I think you will quickly see the reality of the situation though. There is no easy money to be made just by sending some emails or making some phone calls. It is hard work, more of a job than anything, with a corresponding rate of pay.

My own opinion would be either hold and do nothing or sell. If development is just a stop gap then it is going to do nothing for the name.

You could do that on WhatAreMyMortgageOptions.com

Good luck with your sales.

Good luck with your sales.

Thanks,

If I don’t get high enough offers I rather spend my time and resources on a short, memorable, and category-defining domain like Mortgage(.)US that has geo recognition built into it. :)
