Can I point more than one domain name to the same website?

If this is the case, on 1 and 1 (http://1and1.co.uk) when it says 3 free .co.uk domains does this mean that they will all point to the same website, or can they point to different parts of the website or what?

Thanks a lot! :)

The page loads for me.. I don't know if they expect you to use these as add-on domains, but the 1and1 interface will normally allow you to direct any name in your hosting package anywhere by way of dns (changing the nameservers) or you can redirect them to an url or sub-domain.

Be sure to read the fine print if you sign up for this.. someone else suggested elsewhere that if you cancel the hosting plan early, 1and1 will "take back" the free domain. You might want to email them regarding this first.

Yes it is technically possible to point as many domain names as you want to the same web site. I have the Richmond Hockey web site set up so that it can be reached form the .com, .net, or .org. You aren't simply limited to a change of extention either. You could point any name you own to any site you own. Your host may or may not have granted you the rights to do this but it is possible.

I have a 1and1

When 1and1 says three different names, that means they can be 3 separate URLs, each resolving to it's own site. Alternative is to have them all point to one as the gents above noted.

Hi webforging - can you give me an assesment of 1and1? Are they any good?

In return I will tell you NOT TO USE 1DOLLARHOST (
http://onedollarhost.net) as they have hidden charges (ie: they don't tell you about the membership fee of about $35 till the last possible moment) also they haven't replied to any of my emails and their hosted websites have disabilities such as every now and again my users get random mysql error messages (when 60% of the time the pages work properly) and the php mail() function is blocked and you have to use cgi blat or something. I don't know how to use cgi!

My personal advise is to avoid 1and1.co.uk (oneandone.co.uk is the same company as are the .net's etc)

Many people have had trouble with them including myself. In fact some of my domains I had with them they would not allow them to transfer until they expired.

1and1

I got a couple of names and sites from 1and1 about a year ago on a 100% free promo for 36 months.

Paid about $5 recently for domain name renewal for each.

Not much else to report. The do-it-yourself tools are adequate at best to park a page. Can't beat the cost, though.

Now they're charging at least $5 / month for the same thing.

hmmm... sound interesting. Can anyone reccommend a cheap, but good host? Nothing more than £15-£20 a month.

thanks a lot!
