Do you receive more offers via your Whois or from your parked domain?
Which way do you prefer?

I prefer through Whois because I have more control and the buyer's name.

I have received 4 through my Whois and 2 via parked domain.

About equal on both of those for me. I like whois inquiries better too.

Honestly though, I have gotten more offers by sending emails out to companies. That way, you know exactly who you're dealing with.

I've recieved zero on either. Unless you count those appraisal scams.

capiche,

How do you find the 'correct' email address at a given company to approach them about selling one of your domains. I seem to have difficulty 1) Finding a decent email (something other than a low-level customer support person who will just disregard my email) and 2) Finding someonewho will recognize the value of owning a generic domain?

I would appreciate any advice!

Thanks.

I've had more from my whois info than from parking or listing with Sedo, Afternic, or tdnam.

When I start research on a company I look for the Marketing Director of that company.
I'll type something into Google like "company name + marketing director". Once I find out who that is. I go back and do a search for that "person's name + email" .. A lot of times that doesn't show up, but sometimes it does.

Also, if you can only find out who the Marketing Director is, but no email address, then look at other email adresses for that company that are listed on their site. For example, I was marketing a name to Intel. I found out who the Marketing Director was, but I couldn't find his email address. I did notice, however, that every corporate email address that I could find was in the form of ,(first name.last name @ intel.com), so since I knew the Marketing Directors name, I tried sending him an email using that setup, and it worked.

Sometimes, companies will list email adresses for the different branches of their company on their "Contact Us" page. Just always make sure you send to marketing or at least the highest level official of that company.

I've even had success with titling the email "ATTN (Person's Name) - Marketing Director" if I knew the name but just couldn't find any relevant address.

Hope this helps.

Suppose you visit a domain name that you would like to buy, and find a Sedo parking page. Is it better to make an offer through Sedo, or through the whois information?

If you make an offer through Sedo will the sale go through their Escrow service which means both parties are secured against fraud.

Yes, and you'll have to pay a fee for that.

I was just thinking that if owners in general prefer a particular kind of approach, then your chances of arranging a purchase will be better if you make that kind of approach.

And yes, I am in this situation.

WhoIs for me has also been better next to me contacting them to buy my domain

If the seller has listed the domain for sale at Sedo could it also indicate that the seller would prefer to handle the sale through Sedo.

The first two posters said that they prefer whois enquiries. Do others agree? Personally I think I'd rather have things go through Sedo, but that's largely because I don't have much experience of buying / selling domains.

whois are probably easier

The reason I prefer Whois, is because the buyer and seller can have direct communication. This seems to speed up the process. I use Escrow.com for the transaction which protects both buyer and seller.

Buyer pays Escrow.com and when the domain is transfered to the buyer, Escrow releases the money to the seller.

You just sign into Escrow.com and enter the buyer's name, address, telephone#, e-mail address, the domain you are selling, and the price.
Escrow contacts buyer for their approval and payment. Escrow keeps you updated on the transaction and tells you what steps you need take to complete the transfer.
