Monitoring domain traffic?

:hi:

I am new at this, but am curious about the best way to monitor site traffic in order to determine if a site has the potential to make money.

I own a domain that I suspect is getting some good traffic, but have no idea how to go about monitoring this. It is registered through godaddy. Can I do it there?

Alternatively, is there a way to monitor the traffic on a site that I do not own, but am interested in buying, potentially?

Please help!

Best way is probably to host the domain yourself, and use a stats or analytics service to monitor it.

1st - how can you tell if your domain is getting traffic? Is the domain parked on hosted?

If it is hosted, then install analytics or a similar script.

If it is parked, then your parking provider should be able to give you some stats!

Google analytics all the way for me.

If your page is parked though I don't believe you can use it.

Although you used to be able to get analytics through a TXT DNS record if I remember right.

Either way it's worth looking into.

I guess I don't know if the site is generating traffic. I just know that there are many people interested in buying it with no advertising on my part whatsoever. Also, I own the .com, but others have purchased the .net, .us, .info, etc...

That in itself gives it some value, especially if the other extensions are actually developed.

Who knows, the inquiries could even be from those owners.

Good point razor.
What I'd really like to know... what do I do?

The domain I'm sitting on seems to have real potential. It's one word consisting of only 7 letters and has begun to seep into popular culture. It's all over the Internet, if you google it in many different forms. Mostly on humor and entertainment pages....

I assume there are many people who visit my page directly, randomly. What is the best way to monitize this traffic? PPC ads? Affiliate Programs? Park it???? PLease help!!!

I use cpanel's various tools to track. You shouldnt need more than that unless you're parking it somewhere, and if so, they should give you traffic stats.

WhyPark use to let you use Google analytics on your domains. They had their own traffic stats as well but I did use Google analytics as it is more detailed and accurate.

simply park the domain with one of the parking companies and see if it has traffic and how it is converting. If you have decent trafic you can start trying different parking providers and see where it performs best. You might want to rotate it between different parking companies with above.com.
