Hi,

I contacted Moniker to get my account's prices adjusted according to their offer here and also got a prompt reply that it was applied to my account, however there was one paragraph I didnt understand fully.
You need to pay by check with minimum of $100 or pre-funding your account with a Minimum $500 if using a credit card or paypal.

Does anybody know what this means? I already contacted them but havent got a reply so far, hence I hope somebody here can explain it. Does it mean I'd have to prefund the mentioned amounts to be able to get the discounts? Adding a domain, without prefunds, to the cart however already shows the reduced prices.

:hi:

Credit card companies and PayPal charge a percentage of the sales cost PLUS a transaction fee for each order.

PayPal charges a 35 cents transaction fee, I believe.

Currently .Com domains cost each Registrar $6.25.

$6.00 for the domain registration fee plus 25 cents ICAAN fee.

Since Moniker has drastically reduced the registration fee to $6.95 for us,
they would get killed by transaction fees if you paid for your domains one at a time or in small lot orders.

Therefore they ask that you pre-fund your account for a minimum of $500
if you are using credit cards or PayPal.

This way they will only pay one transaction fee for the pre-funded amount
in addition to the percentage charge.

You can always mail in payment monies but that is not convenient.

I hope this explanation is clear enough.

I do not work for Moniker.

I am just a customer and am offering my understanding of this pre-fund requirement.

Happy domaining,
Patrick

Actually it just says that.
When they activate 6.95 pricing, you have option to pay by use or deposit amounts of 50, 100, etc.

Thanks Patrick, but I am aware of the probable reason behind it. The point I am wondering about is that it sounds rather like a mandatory action but the cart still shows the reduced prices also without a prefund.

Actually I am not even after the domain discounts (the extension I am looking for isnt among the reduced ones) but am rather looking for a free (or at least cheap) whois protection as well as free forwarding.

Well, it doesnt sound very much like an option but rather like a requirement.

Recent personal experience.

There seemed to be a lot of conflicting information here about prefunding of accounts so I called Moniker.

I called to inquire and when I asked was transfered to the person who handled Namepros stuff.

I was informed that there was no prefunding requirement. He asked for my email address to send me an email to use for sending him my account information after I registered.

After waiting a couple days I called back. He said my emails bounced so I asked for his email. I sent account information to him and received a reply right back informing me that NP pricing had been setup on my account.

Since 500 bucks is a bit of a streatch right now I prefunded a couple hundred and have reg'd a few and beginning to transfer as names are coming up for renewal. I like prefunding when funds are available cause I hate a bunch of small charges on the card plus it is less hassle for a company offering a good deal. Love not having to deal with the GD sloooooooooooooooow site and inbox full of emails for each reg. I will still use GD for the really cheap specials but... I will say that GD support has been A+++ for me but...

Just a couple thoughts. I am an old coot & like using the phone when I can - often gets a faster response. A second contact can't hurt as it indicates you are serious.

My experience with Moniker is a little different than most I believe, but I initially contacted Moniker and asked them for the NP pricing and they set my account for the $6.95 pricing. The next day I was contacted by them, and they told me I either had to prefund my account with $500, make a bulk transfer of my portfolio to Moniker, or have my pricing adjusted to $7.25/domain. I didn't have the cash available at the time to prefund $500 or pay for all the transfer fees, so I elected for the $7.25/domain option. Not a bad deal at all if you ask me.

I just signed up. The choices I got were send them a check or wire transfer for any amount, prefund with a credit card for $500, or they could adjust the price to $7.25. I think that is a reasonable offer and I prefunded the account for $500 with a credit card. Don, the account rep making the offer, responded to my email request on Superbowl Sunday on his day off!

I contacted moniker over two weeks ago about getting a NP discount and have yet to hear from them. So I have been sticking with GD for the time being although I would really like to get setup with moniker.
