Moniker Transfers

I just bought some aftermarket domains at Moniker (from a user here). I'm trying to transfer them out to another Registrar. I keep getting Success! to the transfer request. Then normally within a minute I get the email. I've now tried this four times, but never have I received the email with the Auth Codes.

Is anyone else seeing this? Is it a known problem?

Is there any transfer away time frame at Moniker? From memory there isn't.

Transfers away from Moniker usually take the full 7 days and aren't expedited in my experience.

Lately I've seen a lot of backend problems at Moniker (with renewing domains, whois privacy failing, and Moniker's connection to the various registries) so if it's not working today I'd try again tomorrow. I've moved away all but 3 domains from Moniker because of this.

I have too tried with transfer for get auth code, but always got email: "Errors:
Domain Name: Error Description
----------- ----------------------------
XXXX.COM: This domain can not be transferred out due to domain security lock."

I've transferred a few domains away from them recently and initiated another today without any problems.

The email was delivered to my spam box first though. It's definitely worth checking there as others have mentioned.

Also check that the admin contact matches the email address you're checking. Sounds silly I know but if you originally opened the Moniker account with a different email, the transfer email could go there instead, unless you manually changed the profile for the admin contact of the domains to your current email address since you acquired them. Just a thought - this has caught me out in the past.

Good luck!

You should contact their support. From my last experience, contact them through twitter if you want to expect a fast response. Contacting them though their site may take several days for a reply.

As much as I remember, you have to unlock your domain first. After processing that action, it will send EPP code to your email.

It's been a month or two since I've transferred anything out, but I remember the domains unlocking when you choose to transfer them out. No need to explicitly unlock them first. Maybe I'm wrong, it's been a while.

I encountered this issue a little over two weeks ago. I tried to unlock my domain name with Moniker, but it won't do so.

I eventually found a notice that, apparently, they "carried over" the previous owners' protocol of not actually unlocking the domain name with the click of a button. What happens is there's a link inside the account where:

a) You "request" to unlock the domain name.

b) Moniker might get in touch with you about it, and/or:

c) They might unlock it after some time, probably 24 hours after doing a few verification checks of their own.

After I did A, they didn't do B and did C after about 24 hours. I'd say it's case to case, notably to (hopefully) prevent unauthorized transfers.

Inconvenient, of course. Sure wish they made that rather obvious on the onset, albeit they got a loooooooooooooot of work to do.

Did you check your spam folder?

You win the cherry. These emails were in my spam folder. It's funny because they always come straight thru to my email address before this time. Somebody must have bulk reported some spam to Google which included the Moniker email address.

The way to transfer away from Moniker is to select the domains and then select "Transfer Domains Out". If that operation is successful (which you can check at Moniker) then Moniker unlock the domains and sends you an email with the Auth Codes, and give you 10 days in which to transfer out. It was that email I was waiting for and found in my SpamBox at Google.

Always in the past I had always received those emails within 1 minute of selection "Transfer Domains Out".

I'm sorry to see here that others have had problems with Moniker's Control Panel/Back-End. If they don't get fixed to your satisfaction, you should transfer away.

My biggest problem with Moniker is they refuse (in an obtuse way) to expedite a transfer. You have to wait it out (as lothos mentioned above)

This sort of attitude- feeling empowered to behave obtusely towards paying customers- is precisely why people seem to be abandoning them in droves over the past couple years.

I too am scaling out, just because I cannot stand a company that has such a low emphasis on a pleasant experience by way of hiring the right people. The ownership change didn't seem to bring much in the way of a cultural change.

I mean, I'm generally an asshole 24/7 in my regular life, but even I know to at least bullshit a happy face with the people who put money in my bank.

I think it got worse after the ownership change. The first ownership change when Monti sold out. But it may have gotten worse with the latest ownership change. Any way, I was glad I chose Dynadot as my alternative Registrar to GoDaddy. I still think GoDaddy's CP is great, although a lot of their policies are dreadful. But Dynadot's is pretty flexible also (just a learning curve). Their biggest problem is their cheap hosting encouraging spammers etc, and when they block the spammers, sometimes they retaliate with a DDOS attack on their servers. They really should have different servers for their Registrar and their Hosting. But hey, that's a completely different topic :) One good thing about Moniker is at least their domain security is pretty good.

It's the same with NAME.COM and Melbourne IT.

Not that they explicitly "refuse". There's just no button to click to complete the transfer immediately. You have no choice but to wait it out.

I think this 7-day delay is their safety mechanism in case you got hacked. The domain owner has 7 days to complain, otherwise they'll treat the transfer as 'in order'.

Most likely. However inconvenient that is for some people, that can also save one from possibly losing his/her domain name if ever.
