Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone on here has had success monetizing blogs. I was thinking about setting up a blog through blogger and pointing it to a domain name and then putting adsense on the blog. Would using blogger be the best option or are there other programs people prefer to use instead? Also, if anyone has examples of successful monetized blogs that they could share I'd really appreciate it. I'd like to start this blog ASAP but I want to make sure I start it correctly and don't have to try to transfer it over to another service later on or cause myself unnecessary headaches. If there are articles or sites with advice on monetizing blogs out there I'd also appreciate if you could share those.

Thx

From my experiance the best solution is to get a domain name. Get hosting, I use host gator, install wordpress and then install a custom theme that your like. My best advice would be to write about a topic that you really like. I personally am very interested in the US stock market. My friend and I started Collegeanalysts.com which is article about the stock market. We start the blog in May 2007 and have had 12,000+ unique visitors the past two months. Overall it has been profitable for us. I would suggest picking a topic and then start writing. With blogs content is king. You want to make sure that the content you put out is well written and is informative. The first few months will be a challange to get traffic but if you continue to put out quality material the traffic will come.

i agree with geb, content content content.
Pick a topic you are somewhat knowledgeable about, and just keep writing content. Wordpress is rather simple and straightforward, or you can create subtopic html pages.

It is not parked. It is a wordpress blog that we edited to fit our needs. Wordpress is very easy to use and I would recommend it.

blogger.com/blogspot.com can support tld btw
start correctly with your own domain so you get indexed via yourdomain.com/atom.xml not via username.blogspot.com/atom.xml
you can't sell later on, blogspot.com but your own domain.

I have a wordpress blog site , that someone over at the .tv discussion set up for me
it's called celebrityshow.tv .... it's made a bout $3.00 in a month , probably will cost about $ 65-70 a year to run ....... but only early days and it's some fun , because all my other names are just parked , so i am still pleased to be doing something
