I think it might be the time to consider having more moderators as there are lots of new users and alot of spam lately ;p

Some ideas:
M
1) Making existing moderators "Community Liasons" or just "NP Staff"
2) creating moderators or guides for different areas to fill up each timezone and keep the forums cleaner.

Just some ideas.....

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

The timezone thing is a problem. Perhaps a couple more from the UK would be good. ;)

Create a new staff position II

I was talking with Armstrong today on AIM and as I suggested once before I think there should be community guides who help in each area and could help users with basic questions and also keep areas clean from spam as spam seems to be increasing lately.

There's a (ONE) really crazy kind of thread going on now in the "Contests Forum" that's getting a lot of spam-like activity, hopefully it'll run its course soon enough.
There are also quite a few newer Users who are still getting accustomed to the Namepros site, there is sometimes some "over exuberance" with newer Users - and not always necessarily a bad thing. We will stay vigilant with perceived spam issues, and work behind the scenes with those that we think are, in fact, spamming the site, or from whom we receive complaints, naturally.
There's a LOT going on with the new VB3, membership growth, traffic, visitors, new and enhanced site features, integration, etc. and it's obviously very important that we handle it all properly, efficiently, fairly, and to the best of our collective abilities ... your assitance, suggestions are greatly appreciated in doing these things!
Staff™ is in place now to handle these items, but we can begin to think ahead on the additions to Staff™ - for me, personally, I'd like to see this begin from within the exisiting Namepros Member Reps©, IMHO. As the site evolves, so will too the membership of the Staff™ ... subject to suggestions and discussion from all the "community", in my view.

Exellent point, these are the types of things we need to discuss when thinking of adding Moderators / Admin. down the line! :tu:

On a related note, please welcome member Lotsofissues as our very first Namepros Appraiser™ ... this idea initially came from Lots, and was discussed and approved by both Staff™ -and- the Member Reps© (including all requisite votings).

Yeah I was able to speak with armstrong last night on AIM and he liked my ideas as he said the Member Reps was dead.

Member reps are still there, although I think that the NP Staff have failed to empower and mobilize them enough, so most of the time there's nothing for them to do. I like the idea of reviving the Member Reps, perhaps giving them additional responsibility.

Indeed that or finding new member reps or something.... more proactive I think is best.

You're missing the point here, I believe NH-Ben ... our current Member Rep's are extremely well respected, intelligent, (pro)active, and engaging members in my view and in most others' eyes! :tu:
It is not their fault that we as Staff™ have not initiated or fully optimized as much with them as we could (I say, should) have, although we have done quite a bit thus far. Apollo states, "I like the idea of reviving the Member Reps, perhaps giving them additional responsibility." I would concur on his point, and it's exactly why I state that if Staff™ (Moderators / Admin) eventually grow, evolve ... I'd personally like to see folks from within this current group be the first to be elevated, if they so desire.
Finding new Member Reps© (beyond the normal position cycle) is not something that we have ever even considered or discussed. I think they've been as proactive as we've asked them to be - the onus being on Staff™ not them).

I would say the whole member reps/staff factor is problably a 60/40 thing....

60 being the staff, as, they have the additional responsabilities of running this site. The "business" element of any site, with a membership size like NamePros.
the 40 obviously being with the Reps, as, I personally think there should be more "promotion" of topics that are truelly being raised. Maybe a section where the "senior" member rep can post minutes of the meeting, what they feel requires more member participation to work, etc. Raising and rallying the community, as, the community builds the board, not the other way round.

As for the time zones, completely agree. Ideally less than an 8hr spread per person, meaning west coast/e coast uk/europ far east imho. Having done international sales, I know it is possible to do it 24 hrs..lol ;)

Anyhows, there's my 2 cents..lol

I would love to be a member rep. However namepros is getting to be a larger community and needs more monitering. I agree NH.

i disagree with the need for more monitoring, i think the present ones are doing fine. unless of course they need help. in which case they should. lol. it's their call, in my opinion.

I tend to agree with johnny6. More moderation is not what namepros needs. I am online a lot and it is a rare day when I don't see at least one mod on the board. Any queries I have made have also been answered extremely quickly by the mods as well.

I do agree that the members reps should be engaged more extensively by the mods instead of creating more actual mods so how about making the members reps into 'mini-mods' for particular forums.

You could have .edu, coastalguy, grrilla, and domainblasters for domains and marketplace; darren, kodeking and wicked_gal00 for design and development and community. Just suggestions but i think that that would work out quite well.

I'd say Benson's suggestions make sense and the people he mentioned certainly seem like good choices - I would nominate Anthony for appraisals and discussion and Elefekt for design and development as well. Of course, someone should probably ask them, lol. Cheers,
john
