I was one of the first domainers to suggest that the domaining community organize itself via a conference. This was back in 2000. I think it's time that the mobile domaining community do the same again (and fast).

The mobile domaining community is highly fragmented right now, but is full of highly talented; experienced individuals. It's almost a given that we should start to form ties beyond the forum to create a "structure" that will allow us to profit from our vested interests.

What happens when a group waits for others to create an atmosphere that is favorable to them, they usually end up with the smallest piece of the pie. Reason: Fragmentation.

What I'm proposing is creating a new kind of social networking with a highly focused purpose: To create fertile ground for mobile domainers to operate in. How do you do that? Start building sites; Cross promotion on each other sites; Word of mouth advertising; Holding conferences; Speaking with one voice when it comes to mobile domain issues; creating mobile advertising labs; research/development.

If a group of individuals committed themselves to creating such an entity, the chances are very good that "mobile domainers" will benefit in significant ways. Without such an entity, the fragmention will keep the group on the sidelines. I'm thinking we don't want to be sitting on the sidelines this time around. Anyone agree?

Therefore, I propose that we create a mobile domainers alliance; www.mobiledomainers.com. I will have the "official" site up by next week Friday (currently a blogger site). For now use this thread to discuss this alliance (.Mobi Haters are welcome, but be respectful).

Please note, that MobileDomainers.com will not be "another mobile forum community" We have one right here on NamePros.com that works perfectly well. I will link to this forum from MD. My idea is to create an "identify" for us. Akin to an association if you will. I'm hoping in the future we could plan for some conferences; buzz generating sessions.

Great Idea

As a new domainer invested in dot mobi, I think an alliance is the only way to go. Thanks for your time and effort. Rep ++

Nice initiative,
have you heard about the forum http://mobility.mobi? All mobi enthusiasts.
You could have a look :)

Great idea.

At present the mainstream media folks seem to rely on the MTLD or Sedo for any mobi background information.

That is all well and good, but if a Mobi Domain Alliance could position itself as a ready outlet for mobi information, the mainstream press would have another reliable news source.

Questions from the media could be answered by one or more of our more knowledgeble members who are well versed in both the techical and concept sides of dot mobi.

Be looking for it soon.

Rep added.

Regards,

Sags

I like your idea too. I`m willing to give in use for free my domain wapmasters.org if you want (mobiledomainers.com for the mobile domainers and wapmasters.org for the mobile developers, both linked together)

This is very important if we want to be successful with this alliance.

Great feedback guys. Alot of enthusiam. We need to use that enthusiam to create a "beacon" for mobile domainers/developers. As stated, I should have everything up by next Friday.

I do have some thoughts in regards to organizing (give me your feedback):

1) I think we should all "meet up" via my Ustream.tv page (http://www.ustream.tv/mobile ). It will provide us with a venue to chat live while I broadcast. One nice thing about that is I can then have the "meet up" archived for anyone to view later. I really do think "live video" is the way to go when evangelizing. The main focus for this first live chat will be to see what we have out there. I would like to start the "network" process in motion.

2) If anyone has an idea for the MobileDomainers.com logo, I'm all ears. I do very good "text" logos, but quite frankly am out of my league when it comes to designing "brand" logo's.

3) I see MobileDomainers.com being a very close knit community. One that will gain attention. One idea I have for us is to become beta testers for our own products and services. We could also be there for VC backed mobile companies that need testers. Would be a great opportunity to allign ourselves with new companies trying to break into the market. My plan is for the alliance to be so bright we will actually create our own gravitational pull.

4) Each member will have their own special ID# (Not right now, but in time!). That ID# will mean something as it will "Brand" you as a "mobile domainer" It may even become an "embed" thing (later on) that could track all your click thrus, etc. Kind of like your mobile DNA!

5) MobileDomainers.com will seek to become a "goodwill" ambassador for the domaining industry. We will educate, and hold meetings with brand managers at any company who will listen to us. For too long now "domainers" have taken heat for holding on to domains they feel have value. If we can change a few minds, I think the doors might open a bit further. It might also provide a two-way street whereby mobile domainers could have "brand" leverage in which to sell their domains at a higher profit than they would "sedo". If you think about it the "brand' is everything to end-users, to include who they buy from.

6) Lastly, I am open to other ideas. These are just a few of the many I have. I think once we can all "meet up" the vision and purpose of MobileDomainers.com will become more apparent. I will say this. I think the primary function of MobileDomainers.com shouild be to educate and promote. That is why I will push for a conference to be held sometime this year. It will take some work to organize/get sponsors, but once the ball get's rolling things will start looking up for us. Start dreaming up locations to have our Mobile Domainers Expo!

Kindest Regards!
