.mobi .Mobi going NOWHERE FAST??

Everyday there are reports about exciting things happening in the mobile world but never is .Mobi mentioned in even the smallest way. Look at these BBC headlines from today for instance.



"Hot picks: Future mobile trends"

Now lets look at one of "trends" featured in this article.

Some questions now arise.
1) Why dont they have a .MOBI site??????????
2.)Why is .Mobi not mentioned as one of these "EXCITING NEW TRENDS"???

Also none of the other mentioned "Trends" have .Mobi addresses although are geared towards Mobile users.

Anyone care to comment?

did you see that the nba is using .mobi?
did you see that google is now using .mobi and not redirecting like earlier?
have you seen the corporate regs?
have you seen the articles on CNN, the wall street journal and and other top media outlets?
have you seen the list of defaulting .coms now using .mobi?

it's not too difficult to hit up a bunch of techie sites and if there is no mention of .mobi say 'what is going on?' dot mobi is still in it's infancy, marketing hasn't even begun give it time is all i'm saying.

Main stream news is just about always late to the party. We're in our 5th month of .mobi now, there is no history to base your claims on. In '03 when Apple stock was at $6, no one praised its future. Now at $80 everyone thinks Apple is great, but they totally missed the opportunity at $6.

I rarely here news of any kind about the domain industry as a whole, sure doesn't mean it isn't viable and full of opportunity.

Yes I know Scandiman but all those other "mobile related Innovations" make HEADLINE news. So I just wondered why .Mobi does not create just enough stir to feature a bit more in general news from the mobile front. It is after all meant to be exciting and popular already with more then 300,000 registrations up to date.

I'm not talking about other extensions. I am talking about all the excitement that is being created by the mobile internet and the various sites and services that are appearing of late and making news. That makes me wonder why .Mobi is not being mentioned as well in those articles.
Also those HOT PICKS mentioned in that BBC article feature services which are specificly geared towards mobile users yet none of those companies use a .MOBI site. They use .COM. So that means they either have never heard of .MOBI or dont see any significance in using .Mobi

Or they are working on it. It's still very new.

.Travel has been out for over a year now and only a handful of sites are up and running. Many are impressive and serve the goals of .travel exceptionally well. Ever heard of Canada.travel? Check it out, it is a great website. I have yet to hear a report on .travel in the news but that tld is making headway in its profession regardless. Once their are 5,000 sites of this quality then the news will wake up and say, "wow, what is this .travel stuff, why didn't we pay attention to the 2,000 previous press releases we ignored?" It all takes time.

IMO .mobi is taking very calculated steps to roll this extension out and is not ready for the masses just yet. To much publicity and not enough content would be sure disaster for this brand and turn people away before they even give it a chance.(or second chance)

On the other hand- even one week from now, after the convention is over in which they are playing a Big Role and even giving away a brand new car to some lucky winner that signs ups for a social networking forum exclusively hosted on their dot.mobi site WILL make news and will create a buzz where it's needed most at this time.

This is a long term investment for me and I'm willing to give them at least a full year before I even think about doubting how they plan to make .mobi a household name.

I keep hoping to see more mass media story's on this also, but I also realize they are not ready for the masses at this time.

This is the ONLY extension of it's kind and it's just a matter of time before .mobi becomes a household name.

And to those who think .mobi should get more publicity with 300,000 registrations in 5 months.

"Results 1 - 10 of about 426 for eu domain" in Google News.

Number of .EU domains: 2,500,000+

"Results 1 - 10 of about 136 for mobi domain." in Google News.

You guys have gotten PLENTY of attention for the amount of registrations you guys have. Of course half of those are "PRwire" type of sites (paid news releases by DotMobi) so i dunno how accurate that statement is.

Those things are making headlines because they're ready to go -- .mobi isn't there yet. What the heck would people get out of it at this point? That's 300,000 registrations, not working Web sites. It's too early. I'd guess that it's going to at least be another year or so before you really start to get something going that's worth buzzing about.

MX Data, based in Cheshire was founded in 2004...
Wyless... Set up in 2003...
YourRail... Founded 18 months ago...
Tocmag... officially launched in November 2006...
YoSpace... Founded in 1999...

Most of these services have been around for a few years,
you can also add another year for development.
If another year and half goes by and the news sites don't feature some .mobi sites/apps then I would be worried.

I think the articles headline is misleading. It should be "Current mobile apps and hardware".

Again..My point is this. My point keeps getting missed. Why dont these tocmag guys and MX Data guys and YOSPACE guys use a .MOBI address? They are after all targeting the MOBILE market. Instead they use .com and .UK.CO. One would think that they would use the .MOBI extension as well if they saw a future in it. That said it is possible of course that they are unaware of the .MOBI domains.
