If you ctrl+F and keyword "mobile", you get most of the goodies. Some nice graphs and stuff about how the mobile web is expected to grow, how younger adults are going to be the main early adopters, how advertising will be changing dramatically over the next few years,... Well worth the read :)

No question that it will be the youth who will catapult the mobile web
into the mainstream. I believe it is happening and will continue to unfold
at an astounding rate.

Nothing new under the sun.
While it can be expected that mobile usage will continue to grow that does not equate to a .mobi surge (except in your dreams).

If I am correct there are fewer than 600,000 .mobi registered presently and there have been a lot more .com names registered over the past year than .mobi so the gap is clearly widening.
I don't think dotmobi is proud of these figures. You won't find live registrations stats on their site either. Instead they prefer to cloud the issue with more 'favorable' stats like number of web pages:
We have more than ten times as many pages being indexed today than we did back at the start of the year.

I know it sounds pessimistics but if businesses are not rushing in to reserve their name under .mobi now it is a sign.
Even if you think .mobi is going to be successful get real in your expectations and keep in mind it will be a tiny market at best.
The figures don't lie.

Hey Kate, thank you for your thoughts.

Do stay with us - lately the supply of pessimistic views on .mobi has been way too low here, so I was starting to get worried.

All will be much clearer soon.

I doubt there is anybody out there denying that the mobile web is coming and will be huge. That article only confirms what everybody knows.

"Mobi basher and naysayers" know the mobile web is coming. They believe it doesn't need .mobi. I am afraid this particular article does not prove them wrong. 28 pages and not a single mention of .mobi. How do you expect that to change the mind of .mobi haters?

Perhaps noonoo1 was thinking of "Mobi Bashers and Naysayers 1.0" for whom a key argument was: "Why would I ever use the internet on my cellphone?"

Not sure what happened to those guys, do you think they changed their minds on .mobi?

Not sure this article has much to do with .mobi? Have the .mobi cheerleaders ever met a naysayer who doesn't think the mobile web will be big?

I don't know how to answer to this optimistic thread without bashing the MOBI optimism here:

The facts are:
-- Mobile web and mobile advertising going to be HUGE (that's an old news from at least 2004)
-- unfortunately, .MOBI isn't a "Mobile web" , at least NOT YET.
-- i do own almost 100 high quality names , mostly bought in Sep-Oct 2006, so , i'm not a hater, but mobi supporter.
-- i don't see how's IBM research makes my personal investment made last year so
valuable.
The only real value i see for the strong one-worders is - they are always good for SE.
Means, alot of time and money for development, means more investment and NO returns yet.

How many offers you get for your MOBI names per week if you don't mind to share ?
I've got only 2 offers since last year

actually yea... just a year ago i can remember this being argued on the forums.

it wasnt like a common view, but i have read several posts from domainers that didnt think 'mobile internet' itself would be a very big deal.

I see, so it is a very small minority who think mobile internet won't be big.
