when i first saw the domain equaty.com for sale for less than $200 I thought there must be something wrong? As it turns out, "equaty" isn't even a word despite being pronounced exactly like "equity"

At least for me equaty has the same feeling as equality, but what do i know:xf.rolleyes:

I do know if I were to start a bank I'd name it Equaty Bank in a heartbeat, and I'd trademark the name.

Comments? Please share any of your misspelled brandables and see if we can't turn them into another Citi® or Lyft®

I used to have it redirected to my main site @ lectron.com which targets the same audience of webmasters so it was effective in gaining customers for me.

Personally I’d expect short misspelled phonetic brandables to have a market in startups. I have one example - lirn.AI seems to me like a logical phonetic brand name for an AI based education tool.

Do you think a bank would be taken seriously on a misspelling?

Citi Bank did and they're one of the largest banks in the world. Most people that I talk to aren't aware that Equaty is even a misspelling. Did you recognize it as a misspelling?

That is not 100% correct because initially it was called "City Bank", but as far as I know, there was another bank in the US with a similar name, City Corp, and therefore, they decided strategically to rebrand it.

Kind regards,
zotix

EDIT: "National City Corp" is the correct name.
But I get your point, its kind of "misspelled", but nobody actually cares. Even though it was strategically decided.

Other than that, Equaty Bank would be somehow confusing; I don't know - but there are so many brands out there with weird Names - I'm just wondering if this would even be brandable for a financial institution.

Even as a madeup word "Equaty" sounds fair and equitable to me, but that's just me:xf.wink:

I noticed it being spelled wrong right away. If English is your primary language most would notice it being spelled wrong. Can it be used as a brandable? Maybe.

I sold Gravoty to Gravity owner last year, not sure if they try to buy Gravuty from it's owner.

Molekule.com is another company who uses a mis-spelling. https://molekule.com/
They bought Molekule.de for $5,136 (according to NameBio)

Plenty of companies use mis-spellings successfully.
