When looking at a site like mippin.com, which is only in beta, it appears that the goal is to convert any website to a mobile version (im aware there are other services that follow this concept). I'm not sure if they are trying to convert to a mobile website that looks just like the PC version, or to filter out non-critical stuff and display only show pre-tagged items (anyone know the technology here?)

I know the debate over whether you need a separate site for mobile is mature and strong, to put it lightly ;) But when I look at the sites listed at mippin, I can't help but to think that essentially they are creating a new site on the fly, or even just some specific feeds from an existing site (i.e. the pre-tagged theory).

In either case, it sure seems like a lot of work. And as discussed many times before, it just couldn't be reliable with the zillions of different website bells and whistles out there.

It seems as if there may even be a subscription for such a service (i.e. website owner x has to pay mippin a monthly fee so they can constantly keep up with all website x's changes to make them convertible to a mobile version).

It begs the question...why not just make a made for mobile site?? :)

(Im not really looking for an answer to that question from y'all)

Agreed that this service will be a waste of time, as it's been described. Talk about spinning wheels...
