Is the purpose of a minisite just to have it indexed by google and get a higher PR? are you supposed to do google adwords and adsense to get more people to go to and click on your site/links?

It's basically a way of parking a domain where you give search engines something to index, and you get to keep 100% of the click revenue instead of sharing with your parking company. Getting indexed increases visitors, which gives you more visitors who could possibly click paid links, and link to your page for a higher search engine ranking.
It takes more work than parking, but the payout is higher 95% of the time, I'd say.

What a minisite is NOT is also relevant.
1/ A Minisite is NOT a long List of URL's to articles/NewsFeeds
(1 or 2 is enough, you are trying to get rid of the LONG list Park page look)
2/ A Minisite is NOT a Website with 100's of pages
(1 or 2 is enough, remember MINISITE is the new name for ONE-PAGE Website)
3/ A Minisite is NOT a solution for every name.
(If Name gets excellent traffic ,it may benefit even more from full deveopment)
4/ A Minisite is NOT hard to Implement
(Can be setup in as little as 1 or 2 hours ,but at least give it a bit of Style )

The SE indexing is only good if you have a unique content minisite, otherwise you probably wont get much visitors from them.

question about the text links. you are talking about links that are in addition to say google adsense? just showing links like http://www.blahblah.com/whatever stuff like that or banners on top of the adsense?
