Minisite Noob: Need Feedback on Ideas

I'm still a rookie in this game, so I wanted to run my plan by you folks and see what advice I could get.

I've been buying niche domains, with the intention of creating smallish blog-type sites with adwords embedded at first, and moving on to other revenue streams with experimentation.

I came to the conclusion that this would be the best way to go about building the sites after the discussions on ppc-sites work might get banned by adwords. Protecting my investment is number one priority, so I'm going to do the legwork myself on creating the content.

So let's say (to start), I develop five of these sites. I add a new journal entry each week (or sooner), with references to news on the topic and any other pertinent information. I can write quickly, and BS is my specialty (even though I usually know what I'm talking about), so coming up with original material for five different sites would be cake.

Then, of course, I would need to somehow get listed in the search engines (which I'm a bit unfamiliar with, but sure I could figure out), and that's it, right?

So. Develop niche site with original and recurring content, get listed, be patient, and then $$$?

Somebody please tell me what I'm missing here.

PS: One last thing. I'm on a shoestring budget, so looking for a host that can affordably handle multiple domains has been a challenge. The best I've found are hostmonster.com ($5.95/monthly) or cubichosting.net (12$/year but only 50MB). Any experiences there?

You have to constantly be promoting your sites looking for no or low cost methods, since search engine traffic does take time to generate. If you join Google, you can get blogs for free if you wanted to start out this way and go from there. Also if you registered your domain names with godaddy or 1and1 they do give a few pages per domain hosted free. I am always looking for no-cost ways and developed two sites this way plus a blog.

Shop around for hosting - there are many decent hosts who will allow you to add unlimited domains to your account. They usually restrict the number of databases as a way of keeping you from slapping up a few hundred websites.

As ak007 mentioned there is more to it. You will have to expect on a shoe-string budget not to see much search engine traffic immediately. You can of course help this along by doing a comprehensive link building campaign - link directory submissions, buy links on pagerank websites, link trades etc.

Search digixmas on this forum for a really good free submission tool to help with building directory born backlinks.

Before you submit your websites to the search engines or post the links in forums like this for the bots to find, be sure to have a decent amount of content ready to go. Try to shoot for three or four articles per website to begin with - then submit them.

Also be sure to use https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools and yahoo's http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

That will get you on your way.

Blog sites dont need much bandwidth , nor space , so i doubt you'll need the hostmonster hosting.

As for content, is rss duplication from other sites greatly looked down upon by search engines? It seems to be a gray area from what I have gathered, but I would very much like to set up feeds (only with certain keywords) from various websites pertinent to the topic.

Also, about content, what options are there? I realize that there are canned articles out there, but I am worried about future penalties. I've also heard of a "Unique Article Generator" which would probably avoid penalties, but might take more time than just sitting and writing something. How do you folks go about this, and what has worked best?
