In a LinkedIn post, Mike Mann highlighted his recent acquisition of the domain name WorldWideWeb.com for $18,000.

In a later post he announces the true value of this domain to be $300,000 - $500,000

I think it was a steal at that price but I don't agree with him announcing the "true value" of it like its a fact. Nobody can do that with a name like this. It's current value is 18000 bucks and until it's sold again it'll stay that way in my opinion.

I'll put this domain in "classic domain" category.
The other domain in the same category is Symbolics.com - First domain registered.
So compared to Symbolics sale this is ultra cheap.

This was a popular term in the late 90s though not a term you hear used much today.

I guess fifteen years ago companies like Microsoft or Google or maybe Apple might have been interested.
But why was this domain still on the market if it was so valuable?

What product or service would an end user promote using this domain?
Why would they spend six figures on an archaic three-word term when for that budget there are many alternatives? Of course end users often prefer to spend IT resources on things other than domains.

IMO still a nice name but one which might be challenging to sell to an end user.

It's a nice domain, but as others said, i can't see it being worth 6 figures.

It doesn't represent a particular market, so not sure what it could end up being and with that i see no end user in dire need for it to justify paying 6 figures, it's worth probably what he paid - As someone else pointed out, it's more of a trophy domain.

Well, some domain names are, or will become like, how rare/antique art is.

Look at the crazy sums people will pay for art. Millions, tens of millions !!
So to a collector, now or in the not to distant future, there will be one that will pay $xxx,xxx or more. IMO.
