I get an message form Michael Moore as i'm sucribed in his list:
Friends,

There is much to be said and done about the manmade annihilation of New Orleans, caused NOT by a hurricane but by the very specific decisions made by the Bush administration in the past four and a half years. Do not listen to anyone who says we can discuss all this later. No, we can't. Our country is in an immediate state of vulnerability. More hurricanes, wars, and other disasters are on the way, and a lazy bunch of self-satisfied lunatics are still running the show.

So, in the next few days, I will write to you about what must be done about Bush and Co.

But today I want you to join with me in bypassing the colossally inept and incompetent Bush administration and get help DIRECTLY to the people of the New Orleans area -- right now.

A lot of you have written me to ask what you can do. Many don't know who to trust. Many want to do more than write a check. You are right to think that writing checks to relief agencies will not get water and aid to people in the next 48 hours. Checks will be needed later and can be written later.

I have a way, though, for each and every one of us to do something today that can affect people's lives TODAY.

For the past few days I've been working with a group that, I guarantee you, will get direct aid to the people who need it most.

Cindy Sheehan, the brave woman who dared to challenge Mr. Bush at his summer home, has now sent her Camp Casey from in front of Bush's ranch to the outskirts of New Orleans. The Veterans for Peace have taken all the equipment and staff of volunteers and set up camp in Covington, Louisiana, on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. They are accepting materials and personally distributing them to those in need.

This is where we come in. We need to ship supplies to them immediately. Today they need the following:

Paper plates, paper towels, toilet paper, baby diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, Pedialyte, baby items in general, powder, lotion, handy wipes, sterile gloves, electrolytes, LARGE cans of veggies, school supplies, and anything else to lift people's spirits.

You can ship these items by following the instructions on VFPRoadTrips.org. Or you can deliver them there in person. The roads to Covington are open. Here's how to get there. You can drop them off or you can stay and participate (if you stay, you'll be camping so bring your own tent and gear and mosquito spray).

If you can't ship these items or go there in person, then go to VFPRoadTrips.org and make an immediate donation through PayPal. Camp Casey-Covington will have immediate access to this cash and can buy the items themselves from stores that are open in Louisiana (all donations to Veterans for Peace, are tax deductible).

Each day I will post up-to-the minute information as to what is needed and the progress Camp Casey is making. Please visit MichaelMoore.com often and do what you can to help.

Many other groups are also doing good work. MoveOn.org has set up a system for people to offer rooms in their homes to the survivors.

There is no time to waste. People are suffering and dying. Each of us can do something. There is no other alternative.

Thank you in advance for your help. Tomorrow, we will take care of the other work we need to do about the ideologically hamstrung incompetents in charge.

Yours,
Michael Moore

Moore is a fruitcake because you don't agree with him?
I have seen a ton of conservatives out there who take every oportunity to spew the Republican talking points and base everything on a political agenda.

Are they fruitcakes too?

No offense,But you live in canada,So moore doesn't effect you.He is a fruit cake period!! I absolutly don't agree with him,He virtually says he agrees with nothing the US stands for and i love my country.

Please, Think About this

Hey, Michael Moore is th ebest, have you seen Bowling for Columbine, Fahreneit 9/11, have you read Stupid White? You haven't heard him at the ned of the movie fahreneit when he was telling not to vote Bush ;(
I've seen both Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11. Thought that they were very well crafted works of art. Michael Moore is taking advantage of what people define as "documentary", while a lot of people walk out of the theatre thinking that Bush is a complete low-life.

I have not said anything to defend Mr. Bush whatsoever. I also believe that he could possibly be at fault for some of this fiasco. But its a government where there is only so much money, and somethings need to get cut. We all hope the things that benefit us do not get cut. Unfortunately some things do get cut, but it's a realistic's look at the our ever changing economy.

HHDomains said:
Yes, you are confused. Perhaps you should read it again so you can understand. Where does it say man made hurricane? Anywhere?
It says man made disaster. As in a disaster caused by the levee breaking quite possibly a direct result of budget cuts made by the Bush administration.
Well, that remark was more sarcastic than anything. Don't want to confuse you. ;)

When you think about it, and think about the tactics that Michael Moore uses, essential he is saying this is a manmade hurricane.

Seems people in higher positions disagree with you.
Good for them. Unfortunately, we all believe different people. Who has bias? Maybe the academy has bias, and favors the democratic party? The following may be something to suggest that:

You conservatives sure seem to spend a lot of time talking about Moore for people who don't have time for him. Truth hurts doesn't it.
It doesn't hurt... because its not a truth. The only reason I started talking about Michael Moore was because a letter was posted here on the forum. Maybe you misinterpreted what I said about the Bush administration.
Let me refresh your memory:

Think about Microsoft for two seconds. Everyone in the world has talked trash about Microsoft, but what to they do about it: Disregard it like it never happened. They have enough power, but don't need to waste it on time-wasting, fat donut magicians like Michael Moore.
My point exactly. I admit, and I know it will be hard to you to believe, but I am not part of the Bush administration... It is people like me who have a thinking mind and am able to be critical of ones who use to their advantage the form of art/deception.

HHDomains said:
The fact of the matter is that the government failed at every level in the early days of this disaster. Right from the Mayor's office, through the Governor's office through the oval office. There is plenty of blame to go around.
Almost right. The local government failed on every level, whereas the national government responded as they typically do.

HHDomains said:
The only problem with what Moore is saying is that he is not holding all of the right people accountable.
Who exactly do you have in mind to be held accountable?

Just some thoughts to think about. :gl:

Where I'm from is irrelevant. You didn't answer the question.

As I already stated, the mayor of New Orleans, the Governor of Louisiana, the so called "director" of FEMA and everyone else involved in this fiasco.

Moore only concentrates on Bush but Bush and his administration are only a part of the problem.

If you really believe that the federal government just did what they usually do, and you think that their response was adequate then you have a lot of reading to do.

And you still refuse to answer the question.

Oh, and by the way, I may not be a US citizen but I did live and work in the USA. I'm willing to bet I know a hell of a lot about the US and US politics than you do. You can triple the bet that I know more about the US than you know about Canada.

John so we're not allowed to say our opinion when the words Bush or US government come up in a debate? I mean what Bush does and doesn't do has an effect on ALL countries..we both know that.

Is this the way you do things? Make statements that you can't back up and then run and hide when you are called on it?

Since this is a public forum I choose to have my discussions in public.

If you can't answer the questions just say so and I won't waste my time with you.
I'll debate with people who can back up their argument.

Uh Oh....major rant....skip it if you've get offended easily, or you love Mr. Bush more than your Mother........

--------------------------------------------------

I think it's a sad truth that people are freaking out about this natural disaster in New Orleans .... but do nothing about real man made disasters...

I mean, last week new orleans looked like a 3rd world country ....or like bagdad...

I can't understand for the life of me understand why we're not feeling more bad for the families that have lost their entire life by the hands, guns, bombs, of man..... but we are supposed to feel for victims of something out of our hands.

Last week on CNN, (the 5 minutes I watched it) some New Orleans resident was crying cuz she lost her Milennium barbie in the destruction. Another lady was crying cuz she lost all her family photos and "memories"

What about the familys who lives this EVERY day because of what that chimpanze in the white house has done. I am not a liberal OR a conservative. I don't care if we have a good liberal, conservative, libertarian, or god knows what other party in the white house.....AS LONG AS THEY ARE A GOOD STRONG, LEADER...

i'm sorry IN MY OPINION The Chimp in the oval office isn't one. Im glad i didn't vote for him. This isn't from mouth of a liberal, but from an American Citizen.

We should leave the poor chimps (monkeys, gorillas, apes, etc.) out of this conversation.

They haven't done anything to anybody.
