Hey all figured with the recent .io 6 figure sale and the nice .xyz sale by a follow NP member. We should open a showcase and discussion thread here.

Metaverse is a fast growing keyword, term and niche! Let's share and discuss our name and news.

I've only got One to start with but its a GOOD one my favorite ending keyword on most names.

Welcome! :)

Then maybe you need to re-edit your initial statement to reflect this instead of just saying that people never use the word meta

Maybe you need to re-read? 😅... I said *most* (not all) never use the word or know what it means... And I truly believe this for any context lol...

On top of the fact that most English speakers barely or don't use the word, most of the world is ESL

Metaverse Marketing is longer and will sell for big money

True... Length alone is not a determining factor in quality, but it's a damn long domain... How big are we talking?

Ok, let's don't go that further,

NFT wasn't anything about 3 years ago, now almost any tech/trade/art related person know about it anywhere on the earth yet nft.com is still inactive...

When NFT.com becomes active does it going to kill the other NFT related domain names or gonna make them less desirable ? I'm not sure if you (@NameFu ) familiar with NFTs, there is a website called opensea.io leading the majority of the NFT market and i assume they will take the lead until a better market evolves. But still people are regging or purchasing NFT related domain names mostly, not just for developing also to have a gateway to NFT world. (redirecting)

It's the matter of which mega companies want to be part of metaverse. First big step came from facebook. If microsoft acquires metaverse.com are we able to say FB is the monopol? we will slightly say "Hey FB one second please", and say welcome to Microsoft. If Elon Musk acquires MetaEarth/MetaWorld/MetaMars.com (just an example) than we are in the war of whales. Beside them anybody work on metaverse with/without meta domain names gonna benefit because when meta ecosystem grow if affects everyone who are in.

Ofcourse not all the companies/startups going to use Meta as their name in order to be successful, they might choose unrelated names too (from the opensea example) It will matter how much they put in. But having meta+metaverse name is a gateway for sure.

In conclusion, Meta/Metaverse is not being popular beacuse Facebook heading in. Metaverse gets popular because circumstances take us there and Facebook is the first whale getting advantage of it.

I'm super surprised that people (probably mostly domainers) are STILL purchasing and regging "Meta" domains. I don't think there is much to worry about legally, but I am concerned about public perception of the word Meta in this industry as it becomes well known to the general public that its the name of the most popular social network corp. It WILL cause the risk of confusion if Meta(the company) becomes as popular as Facebook. I don't think many more companies with a brain will be plannning on using using the word Meta anymore so I'm expecting demand for that keyword to crash soon. A crash is going to of ciurse happen regardless, because of the hype but I think it's going to crash even harder when people realize that perception in the future *could* be that Meta Headset dot com for example looks like Facebook Headset dot com. Domainers in this thread resist this idea now but I think entrepreneurs(end users) are a little more cautious and aware of these kinds of long term risks. This will likely affect the sell-ability of "Meta" domains to *most* end users in XR, but I believe "Metaverse" and other related keywords are unaffected.

Just my take!

(heavily edited)

All depends on how one brands and uses the name, and also length of name.
Let me make up examples, and these would be my order of preference:
1) Metainsure (or Meta Insure)
2) Metainsurance (or Meta Insurance)
3) MetaverseInsure (or Metaverse Insure)
4) MetaverseInsurance (or Metaverse Insurance)

In this case, I prefer Insure vs Insurance as it it shorter.
If you break up into two separate words "Meta Insure", then yes more likelihood of confusion with Facebook Meta branding. But if you keep it "Metainsure", it is very brandable and will not be confused with Facebook. That's why it matters how you use the words. Like Metabar, Metamucil, Metadata, etc these are just some words that have been in use long before Facebook. If you stick with "Metaverse + Long Word", it's going to be long plus Metaverse+ is too generic sounding, all of which makes it less brandable.

So if a large company purchases "Metaverse", are you going to have the same thought that any Metaverse + Word will no longer be valuable since it causes confusion?

If Facebook was named "Uni", is Unicorn, Unicycle, Universe, etc no longer valuable names? Meta is a prefix word like Uni. What if Facebook chose "Omni" or "Mega"? I could go on and on.

P.S. If you don't believe in Meta + Word and own some, feel free to sell to rest of us for reg fee.
