Can anyone tell me if there are any registration and ownership restrictions with the .md CCTLD?

For example, do you have to provide an address is Moldova?

The registration agreement at max.md notes,

1. Restrictions. Registration of domain names is available to those who are bona fide providers of healthcare services or products.

This would seem to be in conflict to everything I have read that .md is open to everyone. Anyone have any further background or thoughts?

I don't think there's anything at the .md registry's website, http://nic.md/ which says the domain is restricted to "providers of healthcare services or products."

http://max.md/ just looks like another .md registrar marketing the extension to healthcare providers. It might be they want to provide the other services that they're including with the registration there, like the Secure .mdEmail exclusively to "healthcare providers" only.

I have a one character domain at max.md and have never had to prove any accreditation (I couldn't if I wanted to!). I thought that the accreditation was only required if you wanted to take advantage of their secure .mdEmail service.

Can you provide a link to the restriction you've seen please Zona? I can't see it in the FAQ or anywhere during the registration process...

Thanks for the PM Zona, here's the link if anyone else is interested: http://max.md/Registration_AgreementUS.html

Still rather curious, as I've signed no such agreement, am certainly not a medical professional, and yet have had names at max.md with no problem and am aware of others who have done too. I'm going to email them for clarification of this.
What's also odd is that if you try and register a name at nic.md which says anyone can register, it diverts you to max.md

PS- If anyone does use max.md to register domains, then I've been emailed the following promo codes this evening:

2008A3 Three Year Registration $360.00
2008A4 Four Year Registration $440.00
2008A5 Five Year Registration $500.00

I've had no problems there also. Max.md has one heck of a special on renewals now.

I've highlighted the key sentence in this response (although the English is a bit dodgy) I think it confirms that no medical accreditation is required...

Response from Max.md
Thanks for your interest in .md you were correctly redirected to MaxMD as per our
contractual agreement with the Republic of Moldova. We have indeed created a top
level domain for healthcare as you correctly noted from reading our registration
agreement. With regard to your concerns regarding having no medical credentials; Our
agreement is written to allow for organizations to register domain names to protect
their intellectual property mnay of which do not resolve as you might assume. We have
many organizations that are Healthcare related or work in support of the healthcare
industry and you can find examples of that on our site under the featured sites
section. So a lack of medical credentials is not essential. If you have any other
questions please feel free to contact us again. The more specific you are with what
your intentions are the more we might be able to help.

had anyone found any alternative (=cheaper) way to register a .md than max.md?

There is. I am Romanian and can register them for $49 per year, and then transfer them out to the original buyer. It is a long process, but in case of a domain registered for more years, it is worth it.

But I will be available for this after a week or two, since I am busy now, and want myself to register 4 .md's, and I do not want that by any mistake they are the same domains we want. Only after 25th of June
