I, like many folks here, bought a few (or a lot) of premium names on May 1st when Enom released a slew of premium names never before available. I remember reading some members that bought 30+ names with the expectations that .tvs would be a whole lot farther along in the eyes of investors and in the resell market.

While .tvs have taken a big leap forward in exposure and value, premiums seem to have had the opposite effect and TAINTED the .tv extention if anything. They're harder to sell, create confusion for buyers, and overall drag down non-premiums as well.

That said, the renewal period is coming on May 1st. My question: will you be renewing?? If so why and why not. In my case, I may be dropping 50-75% of mine. Money down the drain, but would much rather invest in non-premiums only at this point. Good riddance!

All those names were available for years, they were only taken off the market from Dec 12,2006 to May 1, 2007. But they were available since 2000

I only bought one Premium on May 1st and i will definetley be renewing, i'm glad i was as picky though as im sure many on here would of bought lots but will let many go this year.

My one and only buy on May 1st 2007 was Belfast.tv as i had alread decided Geo's were going to become my niche, since then i have bought 2 other premum Geo's and i am 100% comfortable with paying the premium renewal fees (though it must be said my renewal fees are not as high as many of the quality Geos)

with the exception of the "premium" names that dropped during that 6 month period.

They had still been available since 2000, not too many people who regged in 2000 dropped in 07. Maybe a domain regged in 2005 that was regged for two years registration.

I think I picked up one that day, SMN.tv, for fifty dollars. I will renew.

Nope. Wish I had never bought it now.

I had plans to develop, but simply no time to do so and without development, it simply isn't worth anything.

It is my only one, so guess I don't care too much.

I couldn't agree with you more, Mike, and your point about dragging the extension down is spot on. I think over the next 12 months we will see just how much damage this policy has done to dot TV. By the end of the year the number of premium TV names being dropped en mass will probably end up as a cover story for Ron Jackson, and think what that will do to the extension.

I intend dropping a first round of premiums between now and September. They are not big renewal fees, but I can't see any upside in continuing to renew these names. I will use the $852 in savings to renew premium Indian and Chinese names I own - names that carry a regular renewal fee.

The premium renewals policy, and the damage it has done, has also given me cause to review my entire TV portfolio. I'm convinced that any investment potential in the extension has dematerialised, for at least the next five years, so from here on I shall only be interested in retaining names I can develop or from which I can earn income from parking. I expect to start dropping regular names soon, as well as premiums.

PREMIUM NAMES TO BE DROPPED
steam.tv $500
somewhere.tv $100
gaps.tv $52
spanker.tv $100
nymphomaniac.tv $100

I would like to see a permanent thread called "Premiun Names soon to drop" devoted to this topic, a thread where people can signal their intentions to drop premium names in the coming months. That would give people interested in the names a chance to acquire them at minimal cost before they go back on the shelf at Enom at exorbitant prices.

I sold one that bought for a cancelled project and Iยดm keeping the GEO.

Remember, this is the game of patience. And you donยดt really win or lose until levaing the game.

The whole point of the premiums and it is something that has been said over and over by the powers that be and reminded to us by Equity all the time is that premiums are not for the domainers, they were not created for domainers, they were created for developers. And for developers it is an awesome opportunity to create something really great and memorable that they would not have had in another extension.

i am not sure what i am gonna do with pal.tv- i learned ALOT after i regged it, mainly the point richard made. i had wanted tto develop it, but the fact is, i never have time to develop anything for long term- my heart was in the right place, but reality keeps taking over ;-(
i love the name- its why i got it- but, i am still pondering this myself too

Didn't pick up any premiums around May 1st. The only premium I picked up was towards the later part of 2007, Stations dot tv. That'll be a keeper.

A suggestion that has now been implemented with a sticky "Premium Drop List" - good one Rodash!

Rep your way.

Thanks Eq.
