.tv MatchMaker.TV vs. Personals.TV

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to develop my first .tv site. I'd like to begin with a dating site and am torn between choosing either matchmaker.tv or personals.tv. I could use your help here. From an overture perspective, personals is about 4 times stronger, however I think matchmaker has a better ring to it - sounds a bit more professional IMO. So my question is - which would you choose and why? Also, are there some easy to use, well designed templates/scripts for this? I'm by no means a developer - my specialty is domain acquisition. I'd also like to get disclaimer and legal tips/information from anyone who has ran/ is running such a site. Just want to make sure all the bases are covered.

Hi Roy,
They are both great names but I think matchmaker.tv may be a more brandable name. Some folks may have an aversion to the term "personals". Im not sure developing a dating site is that easy. There are many many knock off dating sites with cheap scripts. It is so difficult to determine weather they are even good or not. Im not sure I would take on such a monumental task. You will find yourself learning several new skill sets that may take a year or two just to become proficient. But if you hire someone, then of course the site will be as good as your budget. I say sell personals.tv because you can capitalize on the high overture, I bet you could get a whole lot for this one. Develop matchmaker.tv it sounds catchy and memorable.

Thank you Marlowe - as always I appreciate your thoughts. I will have to hire a programmer and designer for sure -- I just don't have time to keep up with all the latest technologies anymore. As far as selling personals.tv, best offer is around $7K I think. If I got a 5 figure offer for it, I'd consider letting it go and focus on matchmaker. Smash, thank you as well for your input... so far it looks like MatchMaker.tv is the way to go!

I agree, go with MatchMaker for sure.

A friend of mine has a match making site (see, the name just rolls of the tongue), and I will PM you shortly to give you all the details and in particular the group that did the back end programming.

Any way, to make a long story short, the site worked for him as he picked up his own match from it! Thats what happens when you have the inside running .....

I would agree if you are looking for the site to be a "real" matchmaking site then MatchMaker.tv much better domain. Personals.tv down the road can certainly fetch $$,$$$ IMO
