I just bought my first domain via auction. It has some business value to me, but I'm curious what the resale value is as well. Any thoughts on MakeBreak.com?

Yeah, I called these types of domains ''Inspirational'' (do something!!). They are very hard to predict in reality. Can sell one, and then 5 similar can be hanging forever.
But this one is fine. I'd put it at $999 and wait for a reaction.

The term "make or break" comes to mind, meaning something that will either succeed or fail. The applications for this could be crowdfunding, donations, good causes ...anything associated with success in mind ...a poll site, deciding on what's good and what isn't, popularity contests...

I'm a fan, low thousands. Not bad

Thanks for the input. It's about 25 years old and the owner apparently let it expire. It got me curious why. Looking at the archives shows it was previously used for a local marathon event. It seemed like a diamond in the rough to me, but I want to keep my expectations realistic.

This domain is about everything and nothing at the same, which obviously is both an advantage and disadvantage. It sounds good, that's why I think you have a good chance. But my experience with similar ones shows me that you won't sell it tomorrow. You really need an enthusiast with a project in his head. A lot of companies will be passing on it because it's not specific enough for them.
Good luck!!

I like the polling idea. There's also "make and break", which refers to electrical switches. I'm not sure if that would have value for technology brands or enthusiasts. I was initially thinking it could be a good name for an "easy money" website or content creator marketplace.

This name is/was obviously related to this:

In addition to the Saturday Kids Club at Michaels, they also have afternoon craft sessions, Michaels MAKEbreak Crafts, that on certain weeks are geared towards kids and families. These MAKEbreak events are FREE for some crafts and a purchase is required for other crafts. Please check with the store for more information regarding specific crafts.

Yes crafting is an obvious option too. There's already makebreaks.com that's an arts and crafts website. I imagine that brings some copyright risk right?

There's a risk to that, indeed. Especially since the 'owner change' of this domain may be regarded as a new registration. Some factors are your intent at time of buying, and how you're going to market or use the domain in practice (and in what classification category).

It does not necessarily have to interfere with current use(s) of the name by others. A potential end-user will definitely want to consult with their legal advisor before creating a business around this name, or any name.

What about construction - deconstruction industry ? Is it a thing ?

Submit to highly-selective brandable markets’
Less than 10% approval rate; suspect makes it

Your domain was made for those markets:

Squadhelp Premium (allows Afternic too) and Brandbucket in that order. Good luck! I like it.

Even better.

I was thinking of the term:
“Make or Break” & MakeBreak nice brandable

Never thought of
“Construction” (Make)
“Destruction” (Break)

Well done! Better with multiple avenues option

I love it. Do you want to hang out for a great price or sell it now, obviously has to be a bargain price to sell it quickly.

How much do you want to sell it now? Cheep Cheep Cheep? (not cheap, birdsong! B-))

That's my first question. If the answer is you can hang on until you achieve a full market price I'll sing you another song.

I invite either or both you on Clubhouse.
got invites left :cigar: Sound like motivated parties

Rare, for an appraisal domain to get any offer.
When you know you got something. GL all :xf.wink:

AFAIK it's Mac. I don't do Mac but really appreciate the invitation, thank you. My complete IT infrastructure, servers, PCs, mobile phones, is Open Source built upon Linux. I don't exclude them. They exclude me. Can't say I miss them though.

<edit>Forgot to mention, I use VoIP telephony for "landline", too - also on Open Source. </edit>

Np man! “Clubhouse is the new “hip” thing.

No problem at all! Hope they win the frivilous lawsuit filed some random “Clubhouse” which owns trademark. lol “invite only” is fascinating, Snapchat, facebook among others, used it too.

Valuable keyword: break is a high value keyword that has an average sale price of $1981.
Popular keyword: make is a widely used keyword.
Memorable: makebreak.com is easy to remember.

Cheers

No idea what that's about. MY OS stance is about choice and keeping choices open. There are always pedants trying to push one way or another too hard.

The USA trademark system baffles me completely. How the hell can you say a word like "windows", in everyday use for hundreds of years, was invented by you? And if it wasn't invented by you, what the hell right do you have to stop other people using it for whatever reason they wish to use it for?

Oh, yes, of course, I'm a clever little shit who can bring a legal case just because I can afford to and that automatically alienates everybody else's rights.

That's freedom? Think about it.

@Corey you are seriously undervaluing this domain name. Forget the individual words. Consider the expression.

I found this thread quite interesting. To be honest with you I didn't find this domain interesting at the beginning and was convinced why the first owner let it go after 25 years :)

For any domain name, meaning and utility are the two most important criteria and accordingly you can position and pitch your brand. I think this was the first domain I struggled to establish a service or product with the domain in spite of having two popular and relevant English dictionary names here. Then after some brainstorming, I realise it could be very useful and effective if used with a proper tagline with a strong marketing pitch.

I think the best you can position it either as a Makeup/ BreakUp social networking site or legal advisory virtual platform or online auction with only yes or no option (make or break like truth or dare game).

All the best!
