rising! Not more than three days since the world's largest casino premiered on the Cotai Strip, its becoming increasingly evident that its not just buildings reaching new heights in Macau. Having hit my $2500 USD reserve, I just set macautravel.info to auction on Sedo. Thank you for your attention and interest.

MACAU & MACAO are correct

I've done plenty of research on the matter and here it is, take it however you will. If you require a more reliable resource, just log on to Wikipedia and find out for yourself.

Bottom line is both spellings are valid โ€” or at least they should be. It is believed that the "U" ending was adopted after the Portuguese gave up the territory to the Chinese. Many locals refer to it as "macau" while many if not all legal documents in China have it written as "macaO". The PRESS along with the majority of the western hemisphere refer to it as "macau" as well.

Many big companies out there have their domains registered using the "o" ending, for example the Sands Casino in Macao and The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel.

In my opinion, if you have either spelling, you have as good a chance as any. Best of luck!

Good research Pixelbugnyc - that is correct.

It is interesting that the Sands Casino went with "Macao" but the other casinos have used either Macao or Macau.

As you said, both are valid but "Macau" is popularized in the West/Europe. I have a large Macau/Cotai portfolio and have gone with Macau.

Rep points your way.

Quite true, there are quite a number of casinos that use Macao, the Sands Macao as one of them. Although Macau is more popular, I think both has potential. I ended picking up another one, MacaoGaming dot net, couldn't help myself

The search engines will bring results for a search spelled either way.

I wish I owned macau.com If I did I would sell and and go to Macau / Macao, as I would gamble a little.

Sorry Charlie that is garbage.

Macao will be around as long as Macau

However, for the uninitiated the correct spelling of Macao/u is either :

ร omรฉn / Aomen - pinyin (xn--omn-8ka1c)

or

ๆพณ้—จ - Chinese (xn--mix082f), it's their SAR you know. :)

Seemed more like a statement of fact.

Try and at least come to opinions by consulting facts , not fantasy. :hi:

Since the announcement of the Cotai Strip, I've kept the larger part my focus on the words and actions of the Strip's key player, Sheldon Adelson. Mr. Adelson has shown himself to be a visionary and an accomplished developer. He moves dirt, sea and markets. I think it no accident that he chose to adorn his Venetian Cotai Strip anchor property with the "Macao" label. My understanding is that most of the balance of the intended Cotai projects will be named likewise. Still, he has retained the "Macau" label for his Macau Peninsula "Sands" resort. My best inference is that he is attempting to further distinguish the Cotai Strip area and its planned Vegas style mega resorts from the more demurer Macau City casino resorts. The bottom line is that neither Macau nor Macao are necessarily correct, but they both are relevant. Therefore, the prudent domainer would be best served by maintaining a portfolio consisting of a balance of both Macau and Macao domains.

Have you been to Wynns on Macau , not exactly demure, and the new Grand Lisboa- but I know what you are getting at.

Sands main tld is in fact Sands.com.mo and the SandsMacau.com and SandsMacao.com url's both are owned by Venetian Vegas as is VenetianMacau.com & VenetianMacau.com.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, not just Macau & Macao but the Chinese and other Asian country versions in IDN will be a major part of a portfolio - Asia is where most of the big bucks will come from. The majority of the non asian faces in all Macau/o casinos are staff!

Probably 95% Asian clientele but I don't know the figures, go there you will see what I mean. :hi:

Hi all--I'm usually trolling in the mobi section, but this thread caught my eye. I have been very excited to hear about the recent developments in macau (or macao, if you prefer :hehe:). Many of you have some great names. Someone mentioned listing our portfolios--here's mine, and they also include some Coloane and Taipa domains (the two islands that make up Cotai). Any thoughts are appreciated!

MacauCasinos.co.uk

I entered MacauCasinos.co.uk in the Macau traffic auction. I hope it does fairly well. Not expecting huge numbers but a decent sale would be nice.

Yep, writing to you guys from the Pousada De Mong Ha, lovely little training hotel on Macau mainland.

Going to check out Cotai and the Venetian in a couple of hours and will be staying there on Wednesday night.

Will let you guys know my impressions later this week - if you are interested. :hi:
